Strange fraud check procedure
Bought something for £15 on the internet. The company I was buying from rang me and said the card would not go through and had I another I could use. Luckily I had, so used that. I know the balance was well in the black so I wondered what it could be. Tried using the card in the hole in the wall, and wasn't allowed to draw…

Do I have to 'switch' for a new account?
Hi, my partner and I are looking to open a joint account, and I'm tempted by either the Halifax rewards or First Direct accounts, based on the bonus for opening, however as this isn't my only account, I don't want to switch all of my DDs from my existing current account, I just plan to set up a new SO from one to the other…

Yorkshire Bank Private Banking
Hi all, To cut a long story short I used to bank with Yorkshire bank and for a variety of reasons ended up moving to a Premier account with Barclays. After a couple of months I went into Yorkshire Bank to close my old account and ended up having a long chat with the branch manager. The upshot of this is that he's offered…

Difficulty changing sole to joint account
Has anybody else had trouble changing an ordinary UK current bank account (for copyright reasons I shan't name the bank) from sole to joint? Is this following example just rank incompetence or something else? Despite being told on the phone by my branch that it'd be no problem and having had the necessary forms sent to me…

be weary of Santander switching !!!! ups
Set up some 'bogus' so's to switch over so i can bag their £100 fee. I set some up for £5 and some for £1. I did the same for the gf. When the paperwork comes through, everything is set up to transfer £1. That means the £1 is £1, but the £5 is also for some reason now a £1 payment. ok, i deliberately set it low so i…

Barclays Account Manager Machines in Branch
I used one of the Barclays self service machines this morning to make a payment from my account which normally goes through Faster Payments. I've just checked my statement and it is listed as a "Funds Transfer" as opposed to a "bill payment". Has anyone used these machines before? Is this normal?

No bank details sent to Experian
I used a Credit Expert trial to find out my credit score in November 2010 and found it was just under 700 , which is not very good, but also there were no defaults, CCJ’s etc on my record. I only use a Debit Card, and have no outstanding debt (except my agreed overdraft) When I went to cancel the trial, I spoke to Credit…

UK Banks & outgoing transfers to Eurozone
All the banks list transfer fees of £10-20 for transferring GB£ to a GB£ account in a Eurozone country. When it comes to small transfer amounts, this is very frustrating - as it is simply uneconomic. Within the Eurozone, transfers can be made via SEPA/IBAN for a few cents!! Someone is trying to tell me that as part of the…

Busy branches
As a regular reader of this forum I get the impression that a large proportion of people use on line banking. With this in mind I cannot work out why branches are so busy. There is not really much that you cannot do on line nowadays. Recently I had to go to my local branch to pay in a cheque and the bank was so crowded…
