Paypal receiving money

Im organising a group holiday this year in Spain and wanted people to pay a deposit. Some of the people i do not see often and was wondering how they could pay me. Can you accept money to your paypal account and if so how? Have used it lots of times for ebay but wondered if this would be possible. Apologies if this is the wrong board?

You need to send them an invoice to there paypal account. Not sure if you will be charged receiving money from them - I think you will.

Bank transfer would be easier and free!

unless the sender is able to send it as a personal payment (which must be funded by their bank account) you will be charged 3.4% + 20p for each transaction.

a better option might be MoneyBookers.

Can you get them to send the money direct to your bank account - no fees.Just give them your sortcode and account number, use your name as the reference field.

Or a cheque if their bank still issues them with a cheque book?

  • Either do as BenL says re bank transfer or make sure they use a current account, (not credit/debit card), for PayPal and have them send it as a "gift"

You can even ask them to go into a branch of your bank and with your name, sort code, and account number pay in as cash.

    much cheaper indeed
paypal charge too much fees especially if say it were a business account
  • DO NOT USE PAYPAL! If your account has a sudden influx of cash, or the balance suddenly goes up more than usual they'll use that as an excuse to freeze the account, under the guise of "security checks". You'll provide more info, but the account will be frozen again instantly. Eventually they'll need you to request an automated phone call to prove that you really live at the address you claim to. It's all designed to keep your money in their hands as long as possible. I know this because they kept £3500 of my money from me for 6 weeks and ruined a holiday. In the 4 months since then I've lodged 3 formal complaints about this and still had no response. Scum.
Look for the "PayPal closed my account thread" somewhere in the forums.
    Happy holidays!

They want to put their name as the reference, not your name - otherwise you won't know which payment has come from who!

With personal accounts I don't think they show the reference field. I've tried putting all sorts of things in the reference fiend between my own accounts (different banks) and it only ever shows the name of the account holder that sent it.
