Paid Cheque Into Closed Account
Hi everyone, Hoping this is the right place on the forum for this. Halifax took too much money from my account for a credit card bill, and as a result sent me a cheque out as way of a refund. I paid this into my HSBC account (using the automated machines) and it gave me a receipt, which I still have. However, I then tried…

Experiences with Packaged Accounts
Hi all, I'm interested in hearing what experiences people have had with packaged accounts recently - whether you really knew what you were signing up for, how clearly explained the benefits were, what seemed the most appealing about the package you chose and what has actually turned out to be useful since. Any feedback…

WARNING: Santander / Alliance & Leicester International Transfer Fees ripoff
On the A&L / Santander web site it claims that you can do an international money transfer for a "Low fixed fee of £16 for foreign currency payments". (If you want the URL you'll need to piece it together from these bits, since the system won't let me post a link in case I'm a spammer. :) www and .alliance-leicester.co.uk…

Santander - paying a cheque in to current account
I recently changed banks to Santander and have a cheque I need to pay in, I visited the local branch yesterday and it was closed due to the weather. My previous bank issued me with a paying in book and I was able to post cheques rather than visit the bank. Can I do the same with Santander without a paying in book?

why don't we get taught this at school?
ok, call me stupid i don't care. But i am truly astounded at how hard it is to learn how to take care of yourself. You go to school until 18, then university until you are 23 and then boom. you are out in the big wide world. Direct Debits, Council Tax, Income Tax, VAT, etc. BILLS BILLS BILLS. No one at school ever taught…

I've recently started a new job (phones4u) and the bank account details I've foolishly gave are my partners, not a big problem however the name on the account I've put as my name, when in-fact the name on the account is my partners! So I'm guessing it will be…

Two direct debits for same payment?
I have checked my direct debits on my online bank account, and I have 2 same direct debits, one started in 2000, and the other one in 2009. They both have the same reference, so I guess it's for the same monthly payment. I have never had any problems with payments being taken twice. Is there a reason for it to be like…

Queried this with Northern Rock who have stated that because Amazon Uk's bank is in Luxembourg, they won't pay. When…
