how much worse/better off will you be on UC?
Just done my calculations https://benefits-calculator.turn2us.org.uk I will be £2,000 worse off a year when I move to UC. Nothing I can do about it. I am glad I found out now so I can plan and prepare. I suggest everyone does the same, that is a big drop so better to know early than it come as a surprise.

Staying under £100K to keep 15/30 hours free childcare
Hi there, I've just taken on a London job to take on a higher paid job to support the family. It's a good job paying £80K plus £5500 car allowance plus private medical plus up to 30% bonus plus pension. The company does not do childcare vouchers. What are my options if I want to keep my gross salary under £100K so that I…

Fun & Games With The DWP!
I do love the fun and games of the DWP. DLA to PIP, zero points, at a hellish tribunal 2 points were awarded, the experience of tribunal putting my mental health at risk. 40 weeks later and a severe decline in mental and physical health they claim PIP again, this time getting 7 points for Daily Living and 4 for Mobility.…

Claiming Unemployment Benefit After Self-Employment
I understand that if I become voluntarily unemployed from a regular full time job and claim unemployment benefit I will face sanctions. What if I have been self-employed and decide to stop this and claim benefits? Will I still be subject to sanctions?

Guaranteed Pension Credit concern
This is a question I am asking on behalf of a 78 year relative (a widow) who qualified for and is still currently receiving Guaranteed Pension Credit. The lady from the DWP came out to her home to assess things and was satisfied that she fully qualified (savings under £10,000 etc etc). However, the question that she has…

Inherited income
Can you please advise? My mother, 78 years old, receives housing benefit of approximately £2,500 a year. She has inherited about 25k from the death of a family member. She has very little in savings, otherwise. Due to the value when she receives this, she will no longer be entitled to receive housing benefit help, which…

Housing Benefit - Extended Payments
I don't quite understand what it is. The description given is: "4 weeks extra Housing Benefit and Council Tax Support at the same rates you were getting when you were receiving Income Support or Job Seekers Allowance" I thought that people are always entitled to housing benefit if the meet the criteria, and starting work…

tax credit and pension
I have a NEST pension, who as I understand it claim the tax back themselves so the amount comes off my payslip after the taxable amount (gross). Do I need to tell tax credit my pension contributions? I put some figures in a benefits calculator and it didn't make any difference to the award. However if the pension payments…

Wtc - uc?
Just been reading up on childcare help and I have noticed with WTC you can claim up to 70% of childcare costs depending on income but with UC we can claim 85% - Surely we would be better off with switching would we not? Our childcare for 4 children works out at £14k per year and I go back to work after maternity in January…

PIP Carers Allowance & Universal Credit
Up until end December I have claimed Carers Allowance and my partner has been paid PIP. We are claiming some legacy benefits, HB and CT Reduction. It is not much but it helps. My partner has had to start a new PIP claim - her previous claim was fixed for 2 years. It is going to take a while, hence the old claim running out…

New years resolution.
I wonder and hope if we can all make a resolution for 2018, to be nice to other posters and to be as helpful as we can be without being critical. Remember the benefits forum is here to help people deal with benefits not to discuss the rights and wrongs of them. And do keep in mind that 2018 will be a difficult year with…
