I read somewhere about an idea that I thought was really lovely. The idea is that every day you write on some paper something that you did for someone that was nice, or something someone did for you. Put it in a jar and at the end of the year get the slips of paper and have a reminisce about how your year of 'niceness' has been. Rather than put it in a jar, why not share it on here with others?
I'm not suggesting this as a 'look at me, I'm so marvelous/kind/noble' type of thread, but sometimes when you are feeling down it's nice to see that there are positives in this world, and there are some really kind people out there.
I'll start, shall I?
Two nice things I've done today. I've collected 5 of the free Lego models plus some of the tokens from the Daily Mail for one of the girls at work for her little boy. Perfect timing for the school holidays.
Another girl at work has a little girl who likes K-nex (think that's what it's called?) I saw a box of it in a charity shop for 99p, so I whipped into work, asked her if it would be any good, as no guarantees if all the bits were there. She wasn't finishing work til 3 so I popped back to charity shop and got it for her, so hopefully that'll be something for her daughter to do in the school holidays.
Small things, hardly any effort or expense but to the girls it meant a lot.

Nice: told someone where there was a parking space, helped a lady out of the post office.
Grumpy: swore at a range rover bloke eating his lunch on double yellow lines. Also made a complaint to supermarket. . Also sent a snotty emil o a restaurant about the service
I will need to equal it out before t he end of be day.Never again will the wolf get so close to my door :eek:0 -
Nice things I have done Today, Gave my elderly neighbour a lawn mower as his had broke and he was really happy as I wanted nothing in return. Gave my parking ticket away with an hour left to a lady this morning and lent my brother in law money for a car.
As above poster to counteract my acts of kindness I have told a supplier off for annoying me with some issues, had an issue with a insurance Co who claims I owe additional money they soon got told to do one as I know I do not and the day is yet young so maybe a few more things may happen either way.0 -
There's a little old man cat (5ish) that lives near me as a stray.
He does quite well through the year with a fair few of us in the road feeding him, but he doesn't seem to want to be owed by anyone (and we've all tried on and off - the little devil likes his independence!).
I noticed this week the poor little man has quite a bad infection, but he won't ever let anyone shut him in or pick him up to get him to a vet (but he will rub at your legs or let you smooth him if he's in the mood).
With a little (lot) of help from a lovely cat rescue lady, managed to trap him yesterday.
He's currently in a pen in my back room until his antibiotics have run their course. Took the opportunity to get him snipped (less likely to get into fights/get infections again), and flea/wormed him for the next six months.
He's really eager to get out, so I think he's going to have to be released at the end go treatment, but hopefully he'll be a little healthier and happier after the intervention. That sounds like a classic case of premature extrapolation.

Nice thing - I didn't put up a nasty tweet on the Greater Anglia page complaining that they were late AGAIN! lol
Nice thing - brought a bag of dolly mixtures for everyone on my team to get us over the Bank Holiday blues with sugar
Nice thing - Gave OH £180 so that a standing order that was meant to go to me that he forgot to cancel wouldn't fail and didn't complain about his rubbish money skills to my friend at work
Nice thing - Texted one of my friends who left the company on Friday good luck in her new job
Nice thing - Offered to lend someone at work a tent for when they go away as not sure there one would be big enough and I have an 8 man one doing nothing at home
Bad thing - swore badly at the BMW X5 yummy mummy who didn't understand that a red light means stop and nearly took me out on the crossing because she was using her f'ing phone!!
Bad thing - lied to my MIL about our plans for getting to hers in 2 weeks time to stay with her before we go to a festival (only a teeny tiny white lie but it means less time spent in her company)

Well, you don't have to rush about trying to do nice things to counteract the not nice things you do or think!! Come to think of it, if I had to do that every time I had a bad thought (chiefly why the bl00dy hell do people get to the till, put their shopping through and THEN think about getting their money/loyalty card/bank card out? I work in retaiil, annoys me every single day) I would have to be the equivalent of Mother Teresa!!
But carry on with the little things, if this has the bonus of cheering people up, even better.0 -
Was in the chippy waiting for my order and a bloke (early 20's) next to me was pondering different meals. He was 30p short of his favourite meal so I said I'd pay the extra. He was really surprised a totaly stranger would do that and said thanks. Then unfortunatel the girl said it would be another 50p extra for friend rice instead of boiled so ha ha ha he turned to me with big eyes and had to ask me for some more. Its a large but very friendly town so I could hardly say no. and everyone else waiting was smiling so it cheered more than him up.0

The new girl in another department was in tears after dealing with a difficult (very sweary) phone call. Sat with her at lunch to explain she was doing well and she needed to toughen up a bit and noticed she had a photo of her and her mum resting against the side of the monitor. I was out at the bank later on and popped into the gift shop and found a little pink frame for her. It was only £1.50 but it made her dayMortgage = [STRIKE]£113,495 (May 2009)[/STRIKE] £67462.74 Jun 20190

Put some food out for the birds, and managed to tolerate two hours of my FIL's company without pulling him up on his awful politics (I know, I know, but he really REALLY winds me up!). Made the OH a cup of tea to calm him down after said FIL visitBought my first house in 2014 - now, to be mortgage free!

I like the idea of this thread even though it has made me realise I've been a bit of a grump all day.
Am about to speak with my cousin who has nobody else to turn to at the moment which I think is about the only nice thing I will have done today.27/5/17 Mort 64705 BTs 1904031/12/17 Mort 59815 BT 1673007/04/20 Mort 49208 BT 1572128/07/20 Mort 47387 BT 1263414/11/20 Mort 45905 BT 10134 20/05/21 Mort 42335 BT 686811/08/22 Mort 32050 BT 2915Sealed Pot Challenge 16 Number 50
