what should i look for in a flask?

im getting my bits together for the new uni term, and as i wont be living on campus this year, i cant nip home for nice warm hearty soup etc, so it will have to go with me - so im all geared up to buy a flask.
never having bought a flask, im not entirely sure what i should be looking for.
it needs to be a vacuum one obviously, to keep things warm.
it will probably transport hot drinks as well as soups etc.
are those food flask things (cant remember the official name) any good? i saw one in asda but it wasnt a vacuum one, so wouldnt keep things warm, defying the point of taking it!
also, anyone recommend a good recepticle for taking normal drinks (water/squash/ fruit juice)? i try recycling old 500ml pop bottles, but someone always throws them away by accident, or they go a bit gross (inspite of washing)?

I have a metal Thermos flask with a 10 year warranty from Argos it has a small opening for water etc and a larger one for soups etc. When I bought it you got a free Thermos cup as well. I think they are about £20.00 for the 1.5 Lts. I work nights as a lorry driver so I cann't afford the drinks in the service's and it stays hot for over 10 hours.
If you go for the cheaper glass insert ones, one bang and its history, just ask any lorry driver how many they have gone through.0 -
I just got food flasks from Sainsburys....stainless steel ones with a nice big bowl/lid thing, £3.95 each.
We filled them with boiling water and did them up, went back about 6 hours later and they were still really hot...
We're intending to put soup and stews for DH and DD's for work and school."Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C. Field.0 -

Asda sell Rubbermaid plastic drinks bottles. Unlike most others I have tried these really do not leak. they have a nice broad rim so that you can get an ice cube in and you can drink easily straight from the bottle. They don't get nasty because you can get a washing up brush in to clean them (though it helps to have the sort of narrow brush they sell for baby's bottles). Best of all they are pretty cheap in a pack of threeIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0

Not too heavy at all --- well if a 7 year old is happy to carry it along with all her other stuff to school it can't be that bad."Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C. Field.0

Know what you mean owey - I used to be on the road. I used to use a weapons grade "Stanley Flask" complete with a stylish hammerite finish. It was great till one night I had to drop a lot of air and it flew off the bunk and shattered the screen - My soup was OK though.
On a serious note some of the insulated (none vacuum) flasks are pretty good too.The quicker you fall behind, the longer you have to catch up...0 -
