You'd like to think that stainless steel won't react with anything, but it'll depend on the grade/class of SS.

But the centre of the vacuum flask won't be made of SS, it will be made of glass. The outside of the flask will be steel to make it more durable than a plastic flask. Just a thought, but perhaps the tannin in the tea is reacting with something? Not sure what though, as glass is pretty inert.

What's your time scale for drinking your cups of tea?

Not, so, they're made from stell - which makes them "unbreakable" compared to old-fashioned glass vacuum flasks :D

How about shaking the flask before you have the first cup

We've used steel flasks for years, the tea still goes grey  It doesn't affect coffee though

Try putting just tea in the flask and take the milk in a separate bottle, still not perfect but there's a slight improvement :D

Even with coffee I find I need to keep the mik seperate. Also my SS flask is very annoying because it leaks a little if its upside down.

I only ever put water in my flask - saves all the tea stains. I don't take milk though so it's easy enough to carry separately ;)

It was after a few hours that the grey really developed, the first cuppa after only an hour or so was lovely. The flask kept it really warm and not a hint of a leak. Not really practical to have the flask with me but I think I get away with it, so any more than that (eg seperate bottle of milk, tea bags and rubbish bag or used tea bags) would mean no hot drinks. I can't drink coffee, hate the taste, (apparently to do with the number of tastebuds, I also can't stand cooked sprouts or grapefruit).

I know to clean the flask to use bicarb, but i just want nice orange tea! Is it so much to ask???????? Lol

I'm really getting into soup for lunch at work, and want to start taking my own homemade stuff rather than the tinned stuff at the moment. So my question to you is what is the best flask to take soup in?

  • My OH takes soup to work and after much trial and error with microwave flasks etc the Stanley steel food flask is the best one. It is more expensive but it really works:D
