Worth moving to Inverness?

Hi

Been living in Sittingbourne Kent for last few years...its not the best place in Kent to live (very dull!) but its probably not the worst either. As i work in North Africa on a 28 day on and 28 day off rotation, i can live pretty much anywhere in the UK...now here's my dilemma: i definitely want to sell my property and move somewhere a bit nicer so was thinking of moving to Inverness which i've visited a few times and where i've found a new build house at an excellent price. I fell in love with the Highlands scenery but a bit scared to move from one end of the UK to the other:( My other option is to stay in Kent and move to Maidstone but Maidstone these days seems to be very congested. What are your thoughts on Inverness?

Thanks in advance:)

Why not rent and try it out?

But the reality is, living somewhere when you're not there full-time is no indicator of how it is when you are living there full-time and get stuck.

Thanks for your reply but my current property is mortgaged and the lender (nationwide) will not allow me to rent this property out...so would have to sell before i can buy. According to http://channel4bestandworst.com/ Inverness does get very good reviews but still a bit hesitant:rolleyes:

I think i would rent first for a few months if I was going to a completely new area, rather than buy a place then find you dont really like the area when living there full time

OK, don't come then! we'll save the fantastic scenery, great people, excellent shopping, clean air, pure water and MFR all for ourselves (he he)

Just Joking!!! If I had to make the choice I wouldn't hesitate. Bewarned of the new builds though, they tend to be quite "out of town", (Milton of Leys springs to mind). You should definately rent for 6 months to get a feel for the area and where you want to live, check out gumtree.com on the Inverness link.

I meant sell your house and rent in Inverness, or any other place you fancied. Try a few out. Then decide and buy.

Inverness is one hell of a long way from anywhere, and I imagine it's pretty dark in the winter, being that far north!

Don't worry bout the dark, we recently discovered electricity and have wonderful things called street-lights, although some of the local kids do get confused and stare at it for hours on end.

Inverness is a lovely place to live now, although as already stated the new house tend to be a fair distance from city centre. But saying that the roads ain't to bad, Inverness have many top shops, and great leisure spots, it's well worth a 6 month rent just to see f the change of location sits well.

And if needed, then you could always pop over to Dingwall and follow the local team Ross County

Would it take longer to get to Africa from Inverness?
If I was travelling regularly I would want to make the journey as easy as possible.

Inverness has an airport! Easy Jet fly from Inverness to Gatwick. Its only another hour on the journey.

I go to Inverness tomorrow, you can't beat the scenary and the shopping is great too.
