As Tesco's policy of 'get the product free if we overcharge you' is useful but shortlived on individual errors, would it be an idea to set up a separate thread so we can take better advantage?

Went shopping at my local tesco yesterday with my twin sons. Was persuaded to buy 4 Playstation 2 games (2 each), those on offer of 2 for £28.00.
Was very tired and desperate to get home for a cup of tea so didnt check my receipt in the store (silly I know). This morning I did check my receipt and noticed that only 2 of the 4 games had been charged at 2 for £28.00.
i.e. the full price of each game was £19.97 - got discount of £11.94 - should have got £11.94 x 2 = £23.88.
I telephoned customer serivces on their freephone number (obtained from their web site) just to make sure of my position before going back into store. Customer Services confirmed that I would get a refund of the 2 games also get to keep the games.
I thought this was the case but wanted to be 100% sure. What is that saying? 'To be forewarned is to be forearmed'.
Anyway, the lady at Customer Servicest told me if I have any trouble getting the refund etc to ask the assistant to call Head Office.
On my way back to tesco after breakfast.
Of course I am not advocating that everyone take advantage of Tesco's error, I am merely letting you know my experience!0 -
I doubt it's a bargain for everyone0

might be an idea - we can certainly try it and see how it goes
I've modified the title of your thread so people can post their experiences of Tesco's incorrect pricing to the one thread and others can see all the opportunities in the one thread. If Mr Tesco keeps on making errors and the thread gets too long then we'll think again0 -
I agree, it is a good thing everyone doesnt need a bargain. :money:0

What were the "free" games?0 -
Think this has been discussed extensively in the past (maybe a board mod can find the thread, I can't?) but I think we established that these sort of mistakes are usually made at store level not centrally, so it varies enormously. If you can post the store where the error is detected it might help some readers but pelase don't rely on it.Post Natal Depression is the worst part of giving birth:p

do you think this type of thread may be better on Shop but don't drop then?0 -
There was a disney video/dvd misprice that was across the board with all Tesco stores.0

The Alex Rider books by Anthony Horowitz misprice seemed to be in more than one store, unfortunately no stand in mine.
This is one that I've seen in more than one store. In the toy section, there are some Combat Army vehicles, there are 3 in the range and they usually have stickers on for (I think) £7.84, the price on the shelf and the one they scan at is £7.97 (from memory - certainly higher than the stickered price). This falls within their policy and I've had full refunds on a few which have come in very handy for birthday presents!
Worth a look.0 -
The Alex Rider books were indeed mispriced in the Belfast store I went to, so I'm guessing this does happen across the board because of the computer system that deals with prices.
If in any doubt, just do what I did: go to the first till in the row (pref furthest from customer services in case they overhear!) and ask them to scan the item to see how much it is. Then when you find out it's going through at the wrong price, but one or more at another checkout and take them with your receipt straight to customer services.
The 'refund and keep the item' policy is for all Tesco stores and the company makes loads more money from customers who do not realise they have been overcharged than it loses to ones who point out the errors and benefit from them. It all evens out in the long run (probably in Tesco's favour, given customers' general apathy when it comes to spotting mistakes on their grocery bills) so I say we should flag up their pricing errors and get our own back.
It's all legal of course, as a shop doesn't have to sell you anything in the first place - they have the right not to accept your money at the checkout at all if they think you're trying to exploit a mistake. And it's up to them if they want to have a 'refund and replace' policy instead of just giving customers back the amount they were overcharged.0
