Hi Everyone I'm back
I just wanna say thank you to those of you that I have given me very positive information and making me feel at ease about going thorough my BR.
With the help of my aunt, I have completed the forms (hope they are done correctly) Oh is there anyone I can go to, to make sure that I have done it right?
I have got the money together now and hope to go in the next week or so to get things moving, so that 2008 is a brighter year for me.
For those who don't know my story I'll cut a long story short.
(Sorry for those who already know)
I wasn't in very much debt until I had my son back in 2002. I did get a loan to clear my cards and just had the loan to pay but i did a silly thing and still had my credit cards. Just before I gave up work my brother and his girlfriend wanted my help by taking out a £15000 loan I did as they promised that It would be paid back over the 7 years (would of finished next year i think) Well they stopped paying it and as it was in my name I tried to keep up with the payment by drawing off my credit cards and this obviously got out of control hence why i'm considering BR. Plus I had to live as this time I had just had my son.
This stage in my life I want to be able to give him what he needs, I don't get any support from his dad so I'm basically doing it by myself, everyday does get easier now he's at school.
So my total debt is around the 30k- to maybe 35k yeah I know  So for the last 5 years I have struggled and I really can't play the game any more cause I have other bills to consider, that are priority.:o

Hi again and good luck.:D
A good money/debt advisor from CAB could check the forms for you, but the problem is finding one that you could see in time.
In the end as long as you have it filled out the best you can and all your debts are on there it should be OK. The BR clerk at the court will give it a check over, and the OR's are used to filling in the gaps. A major part of the interview with the OR will be checking over the details on the forms after all.

I have completed the forms for my BR. I have a day off on Thursday and I think I will go and get the ball rolling.
Probably asked this question already but, how long will it take and will the process be done in one day?
I'm quite nervous too

I'd ring the court first some offer appointments some just turn up. The day itself lasts around an hour or so with some waiting around so take something to read to keep you occupied, once your declared BR the official receiver will contact you for an interview either on the phone or face to face depending on how busy the offices are this bit might take a week or two other than that...thats it really
try not to get nervous (i know easier said than done!)...once everything is over and done you'd wonder what all the fuss was aboutWe all die. The goal isn't to live forever, the goal is to create something that will0 -
Hi Phil
I'm quite lucky I live over the road from my nearest court and the last time I went there to get the forms it was a walk in thing, which opens at 10am. The only thing I don't like about that is I know people have gone there to declare themselves BR but its like why does every in the waiting room need to hear u say the oath etc.
I don't want anyone to think "she's so young" why is she declaring herself bankrupt.

Liverpool was pretty much the same really...thing is everyone is so tied up in their own little worlds nobody notices anyone else, the oath should be sworn in front of a court clerk usually in a side room out of site. You'd be suprised though...people will admire you for tackling a problem most people would bury their head in the sand I doubt for one minute anyone thinking "blimey your so young" anyhow if someone thinks you look so young it should be a compliment!!

I'm looking forward to getting it sorted. Has anyone ever heard of Debitas? They are a company who have taken my debt from Capital one. My house phone is ex directory but somehow they managed to get my house number. They have someone call you, ask to speak with you then hang up. Someone did it to me last week and the guy was so damn rude that I told him that he was not to call my phone again and if they needed to contact me they need to do so in writing.
I was mad, I asked me if I could pay the outstanding balance of £3000 odd pound I said to him hold on I'll just go and get my debit card shall I. I told him I was in the process of petitioning my bankruptcy and the rude ba*t*rd told me it doesn't take you 4 months to go BR. I called BT and asked for them to put a block on phone to withheld number and caller ID but they still managed to get through again.
Roll on Thursday

Well I said I had completed all the forms, scrapped the fees together, so yes today is the day that I will going to petition my BR.
I am happy at the same time nervous. I know some of you have told me there is nothing to it but I'm very nervous.
Anyway the court does not open until 10 so I have time to settle my nerves a bit and go in there and think I could be BR in the next hour or so.
Wish me luck :embarasse
