Hi, this is the Daily Thread for 7th Dec 06. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything OS and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an OS natter. The more the merrier!
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem, we’re a laid back bunch here so you won’t hear any complaints.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.
:hello: Gooooood Morning fellow OS’ers

It’s been such a hectic week and I was really looking forward to a lovely lay in bed today … … “best laid plans of mice and men,” eh
Thank you all for the birthday wishes, I had a really lovely day and was thoroughly spoiled; yes thank you, Aussielass, my boys did make it special,
as did all the people I shared the day with

The day sped by and I received some lovely cards and gifts and then, in the evening, the Spanish class sang Happy Birthday in Spanish (that was really something!) and even the Chairman gave a rendition in the PTA meeting and that was … something else!! :rotfl:
Should have my car back later today, turns out it was the clutch which had gone. I’m grateful it wasn’t the gearbox!
Need to catch up on the housework today but no need to worry about the evening meal as I’m off to friends tonight for a birthday dinner as I wasn’t able to get over to them on the day. J is still having “not so good” days since completing her radiotherapy but she’s such a trooper and determined to make the most of every minute, even the “not so good” ones. She’s a real inspiration!!!
Going to put the Christmas tree up today, should have been Tues, then Weds, even hoped it would be yesterday, but come hell or high water it *will* be today!!! :rotfl: Received a box of homemade ornaments from across the pond as part of the ornament exchange I was working on and I’m itching to get them on the tree

They are all so beautiful and unique.
The footie training has altered and been brought forward to an earlier hour. I’m grateful for that because I found having it over the lunchtime period cut through the day in an awkward way, especially for a Saturday. Hopefully I’ll be able to accomplish more by having it all over and done with by late morning!
Few more crafty gifts to get on with this weekend and I’m very nearly finished with the second scarf :j :j Trouble is, I like the scarves soooo much …
… I’d quite like to keep them for myself
I need to get a couple of loaves made in the BM today and I bought some chicken wings for 50p which I want to cook up in the SC too. Didn’t quite achieve all the baking I’d planned last weekend, so I really do want to get on with that over this weekend and feed the freezer for the week ahead. I’m having lunch out four days next week so I really should have some homemade “ready meals” ready for defrosting for the evening meals at home. Don’t know about any one else, but I do find that if I’ve eaten during lunchtime, the motivation to cook for everyone in the evening disappears.
Have a fun moneysaving Friday, ((hugs)) for those who need/want them.

Good morning all!
I haven't been around for a week or two, so a bit behind on all the news! DS has a lot of "school" work at the moment, so I am having to keep his nose to the grindstone, which means I can't easily sneak off to the computer to chat on here! (seems a bit hypocritical when I am trying to make sure he keeps away from runescape & ogame!)
Anyway, all is well in the house of Chipps. The weather is atrocious, so the washing is done & in the TD, taking advantage of economy 7.
DD & GDs should be coming to visit for the weekend, as it is DS1's 21st birthday, and my grandma's birthday too on Sunday. Should be quite a family gathering.
So in consequence of all that, the Christmas presents all have to be hidden out of the way where 2 nosey toddlers can't find them... not sure I've got space for them! One of the spare beds may end up being a bit lumpy as I squeeze them all underneath it! At the moment the dining room is full of parcels, as - amazingly for me - I have actually got most of them wrapped. Still a few more to buy, but not too many.
We put our tree up on Monday, in anticipation of our small visitors. I think it will be hard work keeping them from examining it too vigorously!
Have a good day, everyone!0 -
Morning all, up early again with lo
Ds2 didnt make it to toilet last night and the upstairs carpet and bathroom floor were wet, so scrubbed that late last night, think he was still half asleep as he has no idea what i was on about this morn:rotfl:
DS1 was chatting on msn last night to another diabetic and he has more emails of support so that is lovely, just shows he is not alone, other kids are the same as him, getting moody etc so its good he can see its not just him:T
Off to costco today with dh and mil, first time she has been, she is up at 9.
Hugs to all

Morning OSers :santa2:
Hope you're all well today. Not been on OS for a couple of days. My FIL's partner died unexpectedly a couple of days ago, which has rather taken the wind out of our sails. It's definately taken the gloss of Christmas
Very wet and windy up in Yorkshire a the moment. Over in York the river has burst it's banks again. I quite often take the dogs for a walk on Rawcliffe Ings, a large riverside meadow, but I imagine it'll be underwater today.
Main OS task for today is baking for DS1's school's Christmas Carol Concert at the weekend. All sorts of stalls etc. I already have two batches of [STRIKE]coleslaw[/STRIKE] (!!!!!!) that thing made with oats errrr .... FLAPJACK! Yep, flapjack. Oh my poor brain. I'm cheating by making mince pies with shop bought mincemeat and packet pastry. Maybe a Madeira cake if I get time.
Best go and de-duvet the kids. DD2 still hasn't done her maths homework and the way my brain's working today I'm not going to be of much help.
Have a good day all. (((((hugs))))) all round.

Morning all!
Penny Watcher, what a shock for you and your family. Hugs to all of you. I'm going into York tomorrow shopping with DD, so will take a look at the river. Is there water into the pub on the riverbank yet? The river near us is very high, too, bringing back memories of severe flooding here 6 years ago. Many of my friends lived in caravans all winter, and some a good deal longer.
Chipps, good to have you back - you have been missed!
Taplady - best wishes to your son - he'll love it!
Our choir gave the first of our concerts last night. Enjoyed it, but the church where we sang had no decorations, not even a tree, so it didn't feel very festive. However, we had to wear a sprig of holly. Didn't realise how huge my piece was until I came to sing, and it was right in my eye-line, so I couldn't see my score very easily. We were so packed in, that it was really difficult to wriggle myself around, to see over the darn thing.
Have some chopped marrow covered in salt in preparation for making marrow and ginger jam today - DH and FIL's favourite.
DS is off to York this evening to see U16 football match, with the rest of his team. He'll enjoy that, and we will too, as we're not footie fans, and he has a lift there and back!
While he's out, DD and I are preparing another batch of mincemeat, to cook tomorrow morning.
So, up and at 'em!
Have a great day, Penny. x:rudolf: Sheep, pigs, hens and bees on our Teesdale smallholding :rudolf:0 -

Thanks for the laugh Penny.
Glad your DS is finding some support from someone else in the same boat Kyle. I should think that's a big help to him.
Morning all:hello:
Spent last night reading cookbooks (normal evening pursuit for me) and decided to make burgers in buns with all the trimmings. Made a shopping list- extra mince as I don't have enough to make 5 burgers, burger buns (can't be bothered to make them), cheese slices, relish, stuff for salad, and thin oven chips - none of which I usually buy. Anyway woke up this morning and I'd come to my senses. I'm going to make keema curry with rice or chapattis. I don't need to buy anything for that, and I can stretch the meat with peas and potatoes. Everyone loves it too, so burgers can wait for another day.
I really don't want to be buying any more food apart from fresh fruit and veg and dairy stuff until Christmas. We're trying to eat responsibly in the run up to Christmas, so that the feast is a feast. the more elaborate our everyday meals become, the more we have to add to those special meals to make them seem special.:santa2:0 -
Good morning everyone,
Have 3 little ones here today, think we are going to make chocolate logs (an idea of the christmas board) so i think they will enjoy that. Yesterday i managed to give the kitchen floor a really good clean (moved everything and did under the table!!!) so will prob have to do it again later !!!!
Little ones dad had a really good day with my cupboard, it now has lovely lights in it, and a big hole ready for the toilet, which he is planning on fitting today. Mind you, once the lights went in, it did show how badly i had painted the walls, but in my defence it is a very small dark cupboard (not dark now!!) so will be able to correct it all this weekend.
Been playing with my avatar, but i still dont know how to do them properly (the sra tips go right over my head) dont know how i changed it to my new one and have no idea how to make it a bit bigger, but never mind, maybe one day it will all click in the old grey matter.
Right, off to finish my cuppa and make the packed lunches.
Hope everyone has a lovely day, ((HUGS)) to Penny Watcher, and im really pleased that Kyles son has found some others his age to chat too xxx
Take care xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx0 -
