Default NTL/Virgin Mobile. £10=300mins+300texts per month

Following on from this news story:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/5385846.stm

The NTL: site is offering its first deal with Virgin Mobile. 300 minutes plus 300 texts for £10 each month. You have to be a customer of, or join, NTL.

http://www.home.ntl.com/page/virginmobile&log=4

If you already have a handset, this seems quite a competitive rate.

so this is SIM only then?
i was tempted to move to vigin mobile with the same tarrif at £25 per month! this seems very good but I don't have NTL!

edit: ive just realised that this tarrif is only £15 (sim only) if you go direct to virgin... so still a good deal without the NTL connection... ive just got to find some way of getting the handset i want for a good price...

In response to wallofbeans, Virgin seem to charge the equivalent of £10/month if you take a new handset off them, so it makes sense to take the nicest/posh-est/most-feature-filled handset you can.

There's also no obvious sign as to how many mobile contracts each household can take at this price from NTL:/Virgin - would they allow more than one? Watch this space.

Default Orange wont budge, NTL/virgin deal too good to be true?

I am out of my Orange contract. So I rang Orange disconnections said as I was an existing Orange & NTL customer I was thinking of swapping to this NTL £10 deal (300 xnet mins, 300 texts)

Firstly, he said that they hadn't heard of the NTL/virgin deal.

I said, whats the best you can do? He came back with some c**p about a furry mamalian (Racoon), for 175 xnet mins, 100 land mins, 300 texts for £25. And a phone, but not the latest (samsung e900 not d900). And he wanted to trick me onto an 18 month with some magic number guff.

I pointed out the amazing deals (I'd just researched) at 02 & T-mobile,..... But seemed oblivious.

Do Orange not care any more about matching deals?

I think I am going to wait a week or two to see if Orange do build a response to NTL, before I switch... Is this a good plan?

they don't have any of the handsets i want but i guess i could get the fanciest that's free (be aware that they with the 300min/300text tariff some of the handsets will cost £60+) and sell it or swap it with someone who's got the one id like....... or is that a really bad idea?

The Virgin PayMonthly SIM Only contract is currently available for £15 instead of the usual £20 for those that don't come under the t&c of the £10 offer by NTL/Telewest.

More info here.

This is handy for those that aren't elligible for NTL/Telewest's offer and are only interested in the great-value sim only contract.

Although it is a monthly contract it is only a 30 day contract and for clarification it is a SIM only contract which means no handset.

You can still get the 300min and 300text on a contract with a handset but it costs a minimum of £25 per month for first 12months. The better the handset the more expensive the monthly contract and/or you get substantially less mins/texts.

Default ntl/virgin offer

If you have tv+phone+bb from ntl, they have a deal with virgin for £10 per month. For that you get a lobster phone, and 300mins + 300 texts per month.

Is that a reasonable deal? I'm considering it as some months I spend more than £10 phoning mobiles from my landline, even using a 4p/min number.

It's a reasonable deal if you do not want the hassle of cashbacks etc.

phoneboxdirect have a free nokia 2610 basic phone on Tmobile relax 35 which has 500mins/200sms for £35/month, but comes with 11months line rental via cashback, add £15 quidco referral that works out at £20 for the entire term or average of £1.66/month, vs. that quadplay £10/month with a horrible lobster phone, so yes that quadplay is good for convienence, but better cashback offers exist where like that nokia you can probably unlock and sell working out at free rental.

Thread here: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/....html?t=272448

If you wont it just for x-net calls it works out at just over 3p a call, which is pretty good, and the 300 texts from a Landline would cost £30!

the other benefit to the virgin offer is that unlike the offer mentioned above on t-mobile it is on a rolling monthly contract - therefore if after the 1 st month you find its no good to you, you are not tied in. This will be of benefit to those who are little nervous about signing straight in to a contract.
Also you can buy a better phone but these are charged at the pay as you go prices.

You don't need to ........"have tv+phone+bb from ntl, " .......you can have just NTL cable broadband and they will give you the virgin deal!

I have just discovered you can in fact still get bb without a phone line but its only 512k.

http://www.home.ntl.com/icat/broadband

"512K Broadband is only £14.99*** per month, and there is no need to take a phone line. Offer only available online until 31st October 2006."

***Offer ends midnight 31st October 2006. Only available when you order online at www.ntl.com. 12 month minimum term contract applies. Offer not available to existing ntl broadband customers. This offer cannot be used in conjunction with any other ntl offers

There is no lobster or any other phone. It's a sim only deal.
