OS Daily Thread - Wednesday 13th January 2010

Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Wednesday 13th January. It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.

Kadeeae - Welcome back, it's good to have you here.
SunnyGirl - Thinking of you and your family as ever sweetie. The new car smells great but exacerbated my aching hip so it wasn't a total success and neither was the hospital appt.
beemuzed - hope the tutoring went well hon
Triftlady - thank you for the recipe for the smoked fish tart, it sounds delicious.
Donnygal - I used to register below acceptable levels of iron too when I was younger and tried to donate blood, but a course of iron tablets used to sort me out.
Taplady - woohoooo.. holidays! Hope you enjoy your time off, you deserve a break.
Cranky - Hope you are fighting fit again today
Lowesy - Easy to say I know but you really shouldn't be bouncing off the ice.. And why do things like that only ever happen when you have been making a point to someone?
BenW - my cat knows when it's bedtime too and it isn't as if we have a regular time, she lies like a dead thing in her favourite spot but somehow as soon as one of us makes bedtime noises, she wakes up and goes to wait on the bed for us. And she is stone deaf these days so it can't be the word 'bed' that she knows...
Poppy - Treacle Pudding is definately spoilt. She is nearly 16, and 18 months ago we nearly lost her due to a thyroid problem so since then I have pretty much let her eat what she wants when she wants, and she is a grazer. She likes Sheba this week but last week turned her nose up at it and was eating Tescos own cheap sachets which was great for our shopping bill! We just buy when things are on offer and keep a selection in now.
Jackieglasgow - I use the water from the tumble dryer too for ironing. The first time I asked the homehelp to do so she looked at me as if I had grown a second head.
She only irons my OHs work shirts and trousers and the pillow cases but it's so great that my OH doesn't have to try and fit that in now.
Bargain - hope your poor daughter gets over it quickly. I remember having it twice as a kid and the smell of camomile lotion is still in my mind!
Jinky - You know I love you really! And thank you to PenPen for quoting you, as the smily didn't show up on my page til it was in Pens quote!
Haribo - woooohooooo, clever Vanessa!

It means that the sun light was reflecting off the rain drops like white light through a prism and scattering the colours. Which colours we see depends on the angle of the light. :rotfl::rotfl: OR it could have been (as I would have read it) a lovely omen to say you were making the right move.As we turned off the A1 a really strange thing happened…….it had been raining and the sun came out and a rainbow appeared right over where we were going, does anyone have an idea what this might mean????
I am sat eating porridge while Treacle sits and waits for the bowl to lick out (I always leave her a little). Lunch will be toasted cheese and ham sammys and dinner will be a sausage, bacon and bean spicy casserole which will do us two nights at least. We need tinned tomatoes though so not a NSD. Today we needed strong flower and Clover so that was our spend for the day.
I hope today is the best it can be for everyone and that you all stay warm and safe. With love and light to all.

To be frugal, you need to spend money wisely, simply spending less is not enough.
If you can't handle me at my worst then you don't deserve me at my best...
Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes courage is the little voice at the end of the day that says I will try again tomorrow.

Morning MSD & all who cross/follow
School is open today for all pupil to full timetable, only problem is we've had more snow, so it will be fun.
Hubby is clearing the car & then we are off, him to the station, me to work, packups all made.
Keep warm & safe everyone.
Hugs Hester

Morning.
We survived the weather. No snow, just lots of rain which washed the snow away. The garden is a mess as the ground is frozen and now there is a muddy mess everywhere.
Some parts had more snow, more problems though.
Back to work today at 1300. A bit of tidying and messing about before then.
Ate up the leftovers yesterday so that has cleated the fridge and saved a few £s. Mothers' birthday today, so a visit around there later.
Have a good day..NO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0 -
Morning all.
The weather is freaking out. Not sure if it wants to rain or snow or what. So now I have about a foot of slush which the dogs are in love with
OH is off for 2 days, I'm kidding myself by saying I'm going to get heaps of cleaning done
Not much going on today because of the weather so will probs be popping in and out often. Have a good day all xWife and mother :jGrocery budget

Morning all,
Went to visit my friend this morning. She's holding up real well. I suppose because it was something that was expected & really a blessing as her DD's been in incredible pain for so long she was pretty upbeat. I walked home and nearly melted. Had a cool shower & made a slice to take to DH Aunties tomorrow.
I'm just waiting for the sun to lose some of it's bite so I can go downstairs and whipper snip. Fish, smashed potatoes & salad for tea tonight.
Haribo No need to fly-lady. You said you were taking me to the bingo hall.I've already packed my green (for good luck) pen.
purpleivy She's doing well. I'm sure she'll get more confident as time goes on with her cooking etc skills.
Hope you all have a nice day. Sounds like the snow is melting in parts. ByeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeDon't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia.0 -
No no no it's snowing heavy again
It's coming down really thick and fast.
It's days like this I regret moving to the mountainWife and mother :jGrocery budget

Good morning everyone
It's snowed overnight again here but not much thankfully. I want to go shopping this morning & we are going to clear out MIL's room at the nursing home. They haven't rushed us at all but we want it done. It shouldn't be a long job as we only moved her in back in November.
The ironing is up to date so none of that to do today. WM is on it's 2nd load and TD is on it's 1st  Lunch will be pate & toast with tomatoes and dinner this evening is fish goujons, wedges & peas. I also want to do some baking and make a lemon drizzle cake using a recipe that Fairyelephant gave me a while back. Hope all is well Fairy.
Diva So sorry that the new car hasn't helped your hip & that it wasn't good news at the hospital
Ravylesley Hope that everything is ok with you? I was thinking about you yesterday.
All the dog talk yesterday made me smile. I have had labradors for nearly my whole life and currently have a 5 yr old beagle and a 1 yr old golden labrador so we've seen almost all naughtiness and chewing over the years :rotfl: The beagle has lost his recall over the last few days so we're going out armed with chopped up hot dog sausages to help. They are not a breed with a brilliant recall to start with but he has always been ok. Maybe the snow makes everything smell super interesting - he did find a frozen discarded kebab yesterdayto everyone who needs one & stay safe & warm in the snow xxx

Morning All
Still no more snow here and it still seems to be thawing :j
Had a lovely walk round town yesterday, was very quiet - was naughty & got a couple of tops from Dorothy Perkins but they were in the sale at £4 each so could have been worse. Also found that £stretcher sell the lightbulbs we are always running out of at a quarter of the price we normally pay. Oh and also bought a Scrapbooking mag which I am looking forward to reading though later.
Am getting in a good routine of doing a bit of everything each day (some housework, some paperwork etc) touch wood, so that is very pleasing as is one of my resolutions.
Today OH switches from working days to nights so is at home, we need to pop into town as he must have a bloodtest and we need some tools for work. I have a small list of jobs for him to do that he has neglected later  so will try and make sure he gets at least some done.
Nice and easy chicken stir fry for dinner tonight, enjoyed the Hairy Bikers again but the downside is I get very hungry watching the programme!
Best get off, it seems to have taken me ages to type this posthave a great day.x
Oh I nearly forgot, we have a little staff who has been like an old man since he was 8 weeks old. He is scared of the dark, spiders and his own shadow. The neighbours know when I am hoovering as he runs into the garden and cries till I finish. He adores the kids and hates letting them out of his sight.0 -
Just typed a reply and lost the lot
To summarise:
More snow. H just headed off to work early. Wouldn't wait 1 minute for me to make him a sandwich for lunch . School is open at the mo so oh joy I get to try and push a double buggy in 2 inches of snow.
Might do some baking, some more cheese scones and some twinks.
Feel in a mood because H was arsey with me
Think that covers the highlights of my morning so far
Better head off and dry my hair. Only logged on to check the council website to check about school.
Try and post later when I feel in a better frame of mind.
Hugs to those that need them and have a good day OS or not.
Oh and for those of you with kids in nappies or using baby wipes - there is 1/3 off all baby products at Sainsbury's at the moment.I have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knifeLouise Brooks
