We borrowed a Vax off our neighbours last weekend, and Mr Frizz spent all afternoon Vaxing - and our cream carpets have come up lovely - they look like new! Can thoroughly recommend it - its a black one that looks a bit like R2D2. If I find a pic I will post one.

  • hi , i bought a pet vax of ebay, its great think i got it for £80 as it was a buy now rather than waiting. As i have three kids and a puppy. Its great. It retails at about £160 in the shops. They also have cheaper ones too. Have a look and see what ya think.

we hire one every 3-6 months from homebase its called the rug doctor, it is really excellent, we have just moved house and couln't really afford to change the carpets and these were discusting, and trust me it got them so clean most visitors think they are new carpets.
Rental is £13.99 for 24 hours but you don't need that long it took me about 6 hours to do the whole house, and you just pay for detergent or use multi purpose cleaner. can't reccomend it any more without shouting from rooftops

You may want to consider dry foam (puts detergent down as a foam which you leave to dry then vac up) rather than wet. A good vac will pick up all the solids & it is the carpet fibers you want to clean so less water = less mess but stains removed.
Wet tends to leave quite a bit of dampnes behind, solids sink out of sight as not all can be sucked back up. This layer of solids then commes back to the surface as the floor is walked on & hey presto the carpet looks dirty again.
Whichever you use certainly doo lots & lots of vacing first to remove all the grit etc. ;)
  • we bought a vax rapide which is an upright carpet cleaner and its brilliant infact we have alot of people waiting to borrow it,we have 4 kids so its a god send and it is very easy to use unlike some of the other carpet cleaners.

I have a Bissell cleaner, it dries your carpets as well. Expensive but I've had mine for 5 years and have to use it all the time, my kids are the same, drop everything on the carpet.

  • Hi, I was thinking about the Vax Rapide as it looks so easy and light to use but does it really get the carpets to dry within an hour with just a 600W motor?
  • I have been looking to buy an upright vax recently, i have a cylinder model but it kills my back, top of the range model is £190 but only £100 on ebay - anyone seen it cheaper - how does it compare to the bissell?
