summer holiday makeover challenge!

I'm hoping to use the days between now and Sepember 1st to achieve my lifelong ambition of becoming finally organised. I need to declutter, I need to clean, I need to do more OS style living generally. I want to do some dressmaking, I need to sort out masses of paperwork both at home and at school and I'd like my finances properly sorted. There's probably more - but that's for starters!
This is my last school summer break as I'm due to retire in December and I'd so love to have things sorted before then. I have an appearance of "calm efficiency" (recent quote from Ofs*** report!!!) but my avatar is well chosen - beneath the surface I'm paddling furiously! I know I have ages to do this when I retire - but my self esteem wants to do it now!
Anyway - anyone want to join me for a six week makeover challenge?

I've never done a challenge on here before but this one I'd like to join.
My house is clean but since we were flooded last year and all the downstairs was packed away and sent upstairs I haven't had much chance to clear it away (or should that be throw it away!)
I have one 3 year old (4 next month) who is starting primary school in September so I'd like the house to be at least partly sorted out before he goes.Starting my DMP Journey.0 -
Ooh I'd love to join in on this. I have the summer holidays off too and at the moment I feel I have so much to do to organise my life I don't know where to start. I suppose being sat here on the internet isn't helping me get my house straight, but at least seeing this is building up some motivation. Count me in!0

Ooh this sounds like just the kind of challenge I need. I broke up last week and my 2 boys broke up yesterday. I really need to get organised as number 3 is due at the beginning of December - yes i know I must be mad!!! The house desperately needs decluttering so we've got room for the new one. We are having an extension built at the moment but don't want to just move junk into it! I also need to get more organised with food etc so we don't waste so much money because we'll be on my maternity pay when all the winter bills come in.

Hi Bexbex - glad to have some company! Must have been awful to get flooded out like that. The only advantage to living at the top of a hill is that that's one scenario we're unlikely to experience.
I've decided to take some inspiration from the motivation thread and choose three (small!) jobs to be done before lunch/supper, etc.
This morning I have to change the bed, clean off the bedside tables and wipe down all the surfaces in the kitchen. So far, the bed's done and some of the kitchen! I've also got two loads of washing out and a third in the machine. Am eyeing up the bookcases as I need to do a real sort out there - but it's too big to list as a task today. I need to feel successful! See you later!Resolution:

Well, I've just had a quick shower (afraid I was still in my dressing gown but in my defence I had been putting washing on / hanging out etc). I think from tomorrow I'll get ready as soon as I get up so I can really get stuck in and not waste as much time. I've just printed today's Flylady tasks and will try and do those before starting on the garage  I have years of accumulated rubbish in there and the attic, so now seems a good time to start the decluttering. See you all later:wave:0

I need to post some letters and walk the dog and wear out the small child, so I'm combining all of these into one big walk across the village to go to a post box there with the child and dog in tow lol
and then I really really really need to make a start on conquering Mt.Ironing in my livingroom!
We came home from a week in the Isle of Wight this week and I've been trying to catch up on all the washing while the weather is niceStarting my DMP Journey.0 -
I'm having a bit of a wobbly. I think it may take more than six weeks!!! I'm still cleaning the bedroom. It's amazing what you don't notice is there - I think I must have tunnel vision. At the moment I'm moving anything that shouldn't be there into the spare room (just shifting the problem?) but hopefully as I get round each room I'll only put in it what should actually be there. I've started gathering things to put on ebay / amazon / sell at car boot. I'll aim to list at least five items a day and, weather permitting, do a car boot sale this Sunday. Oh well, back to the bedroom.0

Well I'm not doing too well. Was having a good sort out upstairs but now the kids are trying to kill each other so think i'll follow bexbex and take the dog for a nice long walk and try to wear the kids out at the same time! Can't let them play outside as the builders are working on tha extension and don't think they'd apprecite 2 extra little helpers!!0

How long have I been gone? That's how long it took to clean the surfaces in the kitchen! Would be easier if I had enough cupboards to avoid having small appliances out - but I don't. However, they've all been moved and cleaned and that's done. Just the bedside tables before lunch then.
I don't have the distraction of small children, so I have no excuses. Still, I know I'll feel better for being able to tick a few things off my list every day - but if I don't put it on here I know I'll just do nothing.....
Need to consider this afternoon's tasks next....Resolution:
