Mr_Average wrote:It's early days yet so I'll just see if they contact me within the cancelation period. If they do, and it was a good deal, I must admit one half of me would be tempted to take them up on it as my kids and wife will never forgive me! However, the other half would like to do without Sky just to see if I could survive! ( We ought to set up a Skyaholics Anonymous ). Seeing as the hard disc in my Sky+ box will no longer record, if I do eventually get disconnected, will I still receive some channels? and could I hook up a PVR to record these channels?
I cancelled Sky about 18months ago, but rejoined at the weekend. Just rang on the off chance as was finding not much on the available freesat channels, and wanted E4 back and more kids channels. Anyhow was offered 6 mths half price or 25% off for a year immediately, went for 6mths half price as want the all except sports/movies package and £10.50/month is all I would be prepared to pay for the amount we use it. After 6 months I will cancel or take another deal - quite able to cope without Sky so will only pay for it if offered a discount.
I would not be too concerned Mr A - if it does go all the way to cancellation you will be plagued by offers to resubscribe, even if you don't receive one just say you would come back if it were cheaper and I'm sure you will be offered something. You will still get all the BBC/ITV channels and various others if you are cancelled, keep hold of your card as you may need that for some, don't think they ever ask for it back though.0 -
Thanks for the replies. By the sounds of it, it is just a matter of when not if they contact me. I wait with bated breath!0

I bit the bullit and, after reading about your experiences about contacting SKY and threatening to cancel your subscriptions..... phoned the free number - 08005875707. The long and short of it is...I have saved £15.00 per month 'til October. I took your advice and, when asked why I wanted to either cancel or reduce my package, said that in my view there were not enough benifits for subscribers. (I have to say that I didn't have much confidence in achieving anything - so, there you go, if you're swithering - DON'T! Give it a go.)
So thanks not only for giving me the confidence but also for giving me the incentive - I would NEVER have thought to do this on my own. What a wonderful site!! :j0 -
whats the cheapest sub with sky+?
correct me if im wrong, but if i get sky sports 1+2, sky sports 3 and extra come free, and all sky sports channels costs £36.
thanks0 -
sky rang me today i owe last months had to stop direct debit anyway had a phone call today from sky owed £55 + new bill which is due on monday which would be £42 lady invited me to pay today what ever i paid she would deduct the same from my bill all i could pay there and then was £13 so she took another £13 off my bill total therefore for a £13 spend £26 off the arrears
if i could have paid more they would have matched it!! checked up by ringing back later on the free phone number and the reduction had taken placeSave 12k in 2015 member 187. £62.50/60000 -
E4 is on freeview
In my opinion, paying a monthly charge to sky over and above the normal tv license is silly. Unless you need premiership football of course.Save save save!!0 -
Thank you very much for this advice. I've just phoned Sky (using the 0800 number of course !) threatening to cancel and they offered me a choice as a 'long standing customer of more than 2 years' either the basic package for £7.50 per month for a year instead of £15, or basic plus movies for £27 per month for a year or £18 per month with Sky movies for three months, then with the option to accept the £27 p.m. offer after that. I think after 2 months I'll ring threatening to cancel again and see if I get another 3 months at £18 first. Good luck to the rest of you out there !0

Just called Sky,after a little haggling got 25% off for the next 12 months, saves phoning every quarter threatening to cancel, happy with that, thanks to everyone for keeping the thread updated.0

Thanks everyone for this advice.
Just phoned Sky (using the 0800 number of course !) threatening to cancel as a 'long standing customer of more than 7 years' ( for which apparantly I have been getting a 20 % lifetime discount I don't remember getting ! )
Took off SKY movies ..... and now paying £21 per month for a year instead of £35 I have been paying,.... so saving over £150 for next year x not watching movies .... I think ???
I'll ring threatening to cancel again when it goes up to £28 in a year and see if I get another offer.
Did I get the best deal I could, or have I been duped x losing movies ??
Many thanx !0 -
If you have just kept the family package you didnt get a deal because its £21 anyway. It seems all they have done is accept you taking off the movies. If it was me I'd ring back and say its too much and cancel it. They should give you something but you have to talk to disconnections not just customer services. If they dont just cancel anyway and it takes 30 or 31 days and they should give you a better deal in that time to keep you
I'm paying £10.50 a ,month for family package, half price for 3 monthsThanx
