  • LIDL
    Buy
Chocolate Digestives...at 46p...excellent.IMO better than McVities
    Pure Orange Juice.
    Marmalade

    Don't Buy
    Baked Beans
    Tinned soup
If it's not a bargain, it's not worth buying :D
  • Aldi

Italian Filter Coffee -- 99p/200g - great. Mmmm...going to have a cup now...
ARGAL Spanish charcuterie -- not always in stock, but Chorizo Regio, Salchichón and Jamón Serrano are VERY good.
Gammon Joints -- far cheaper than anywhere else.
Butcher's pork sausages -- very good.
Sauel's Smoked Farmer Ham -- thick cut, 69p!!!
    Parmesan -- unbelievably cheap
    Carlini E.V.Olive oil -- £1.99/75cl -- great.
Pesto -- 89p/ jar, or the 'fresh' stuff in a packet (but pour off & reserve most of the oil first)
Sainte Etienne Belgian lager -- £2.69/4x500ml can -- very nice -- MUCH nicer than UK Stella -- sweeter & fuller in taste. UK Stella tastes of armpit.
Budavar Romanian Merlot -- can you say Cherries?! -- £2.69/75cl

And I wish they'd bring back that £1.99 Spanish plonk -- not the greatest, but eminently drinkable.

    And they don't sell lemons!!!!!

  • Aldi
Fruit is normally better than most of the main supermarkets
Own brand (Galahad lager) is as good as any 4 per cent lagers
Tinned dog food is (in opinion of our 2 mutts) best there is
Tuna fishcakes are va favourite of ours
We do our main shop there and just occasionally pop to Tesco etc for the odd item that Aldi don't do
You can fill a trolley in Aldi at a much lower cost than Sainsbury's etc

New Aldi store opening tomorrow in my local town, can't wait. Tesco had the monopoly - I know where I will be doing my main shop in future.

As someone else mentioned earlier, it does feel like shopping abroad in Aldi, partly because of the layout and also because I'm always trying new stuff, sometimes unsuccessfully but usually with great results.

LIDL, best buy - Dry Cure Bacon and many of the "Specials" especially DIY Power Tools, sets of craft knives, WD40. I know that these are normally only on offer for a week but sometimes they hang around for longer.
  • We have bought several electrical items in Aldi and all have been hi spec and good value.Best buys have been a digital camera, computer accessories and printer. All very good...apparently in Belgium they queue outside early on special days as everyone wants the computers ,etc.
  • PS also very good for serious cyclists too .
  • Have to say that Lidl do a absolutely beautiful cheese coleslaw. Tastes homemade and is just so delicious. The chorizo is very reasonable and the yoghurt drinks are delicious.
