PS also very good for serious cyclists too .

Now and again Lidl have cycling themed weeks. Much of stuff seems a bit wonky (I believe in paying for quality cycling stuff since it's such a cheap form of transport anyway) but can heartly recommend cycling socks - somewhere between £1.50 and £2.00 - a bargain when you can pay between £7 and £10 for a pair of branded/sponsor message socks elsewhere - do they think we are mad? Lidl's socks breath fine.

Aldi did a merino wool top for a tenner recently - true I think it's thinner and probably not as hardy as some costing £50 or more but you can hardly complain.

We shop at both & mainly ignore the giant Asda Walmart only 1/2 mile from our home. Most items great taste & real value.
    .

I also avoid Asda - always keen to save money, but I do have limits. Asda is, I understand, a recorded contributor to a certain Mr Bush. It's policies on a variety of issues have also come in for criticism in the states.

Hope I'm allowed to say this - keep saving - but be good out there.

Back to subject - this forum has determined me to check out Lidl's more - was already an Aldi fan.
  • When I said Asda, I did of course mean parent company WalMart.

Has anyone tried the smaller freezer shops usually in local areas? they are great! selling famous name overmakes and rejects at very good prices. I have had the Asda Indian meals at less than half price, also very good cakes and things, the packaging is very plain but so what at those prices.
  • LIDL

omg you have to get the new chocolate sponge with chocolate sauce, ot the syprup one from Lidl.!
It appears to be a new range and come in a small plastic tub for 99p
Best ever ever chocolate cake I've tasted!

  • I am new to this site and fairly new to Lidl. I only really pop in for chocolates.
But I can't believe that no-one has mentioned the Breakfast Pack. It is in a large polystyrene tray and contains 12 sausages (6 each of 2 types), 4 slices of lawn sausage, 4 hash browns and 4 slices of black pudding. All this for £1.99. It is delicious, just add some eggs and beans and you can feed an army. They have always had them whenever I have gone in there. :A
  • Has anyone mentioned Lidl's frozen paella? £1.89 Quick and simple to cook in microwave (I am no cook), very tasty and authentic, with white fish, meat, squid, mussels, prawns, peas, etc. Fantastic value!
Went around German Christmas market here in Nottm the other day and felt rather smug that I could buy the chocolate goodies etc for a third of the price.
The theme of the weekly specials often amuses me and leaves me speechless. I now have a saying 'If there is anything you want/need wait long enough and Lidl will eventually have it in.'
  • From Lidls, if you like 'Dooley's' toffee liquer, try their bottle of 'Fabulous', bottle looks very similar to Dooleys and although I've only tasted the original once I think Lidl's was nicer as it was less sweet and about half the price, I think it was about £5.99. I've bought a couple of bottles for Christmas, its lovely with ice.
  • regards Netto

Buy cans and tins and household

Do not buy frozen or milk because Nettos do not have back up freezers so it could be sat in the very small warehouse happily defrosting and the milk sits there not put in the backup chiller because that will be full of the over ordered yoghurts and cooked meats.
