Hi there, I submitted my claim on MCOL. Nationwide have acknowledged it but have said they will defend it.
I have 2 claims against them and the total value is quite large; with interest added over £6K.
Should I be worried and what advice does anyone have?
I received the letter saying they acknowleged it on the 1st Feb.
Does anyone have any experiences of this??/0 -

Lots of people have gone further than this with their claim. Nationwide have not yet taken one case into a court hearing (they have settled every claim out of court). Don't be too worried, you have got the upper hand. How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?

Morning fellow forumites....
To keep you up to date where I am - filed the claim with MCOL against the Nationwide. The status is 'Acknowledged'. The claim is for less than £250 - what do you reckon the chances are of them defending?

Is that because they don't have many account holders, or does anyone know of any instances where the Building Society have won.
I only ask because I am at the 14 day letter stage, and want to go forward with my eyes wide open.
If you look on the consumer action group forum/nationwide you'll find a lot of success stories. I got my charges back from NWide - very straightforward if you follow the process. Nearly £3k appeared in my bank 7 days after I filed with MCOL.
they did close my account but made a bit of a mess of it. I'd calculated that I'd have only a £1 or £2 left in on the date they wanted to close it. However, they issued a cheque to me with the balance the day before, and a debit came off that day. I went in to the branch to return the cheque and pay the £20 balance but was told the account was now closed and the £80 written off. So as well as the £3k I was £140 better off!!!
Even better - they paid a standing order a week after the account was closed! Again I went into the branch and was told - good for you, you're quids in!
I'll really miss the NWide staff....but not the charges!

Good luck - haven't heard of anyone not winning!0 -

You may have to issue a court claim, but there is not much chance of the bank going into a hearing to defend your claim. Nationwide seem to settle a lot after a court claim has been issued. How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?

You gave a deadline in your second letter. Issue your court claim after this.
