Turns out that for some this is not such a good deal. Obviously MSE never checked it out properly before advising it was a great deal. One needs to read Plusnet's Terms and conditiosn very careful. Apparently these T & Cs may have changed since the inception of this deal. As it is a BT based product, I am very wary as BT have a nasty habit of springing surprises on you as they give away nothing. Personally i don't like being tied into a 18 moth contract as no one knows what is going to happen in 12 month's time never mind 18. Will there be a technology revolution where speeds a re increased drastically but you cannot take advantage because you are locked into a 18 month contract etc?
  • Plusnet are fine but note that the £5.99 deal is only for three months and then £11.95 unless you live in athe right part of the country.

And the unlimted moves up to £15.99. All nicely hidden away in the fine print in the T & Cs. IMHO not such a good deal.
In addition, they have done away with all new 1 month notice contracts. IMHO once they have enough peole locked into the 18 month contracts there will be a cull on support staff in the name of "Credit crunch" or "recession" and the standards will fall but as you signed up for 18 months you are stuck.
  • Also, the new deals are just for internet connection. If you want your own website or domain hosting it used to included. Now it is nowhere to be seen.

Looks like Plusnet have made a change in the market they want to attract.

They also seem to have done away with their 90 day money back guarantee, where migrating in customers could try them for 90 days and if you didn't want to continue you could leave without penalty and get all money paid to them refunded.
  • This is probably going to sound really dense but where it says you need a BT line, does this mean any phone line that's not through Virgin? My line rental is paid to Tesco but is it still classed as a BT line? :)

Yes, they mean a non cable line. You can get your line via Post Office, Phone co-op etc,
  • Hiya, like Sanfly I'm thinking of switching to Plusnet and I was wondering what their service is like when you have a technical issue and contact them? Are you kept on hold for ages? Do they call you back? Do they respond to emails?

I'm currently with Freedom 2 Surf and have been for 7 years but recently their customer service has been ATROCIOUS. I'm put on hold for at least 15 minutes to their 0871 no. before I usually give up. Emails to technical support just get ignored too. Grrr.

I'm hoping Plusnet will provide a more reliable service...?

    Cheers!

(p.s. I'm in an area entitled to £5.99/mth)

Do not forget what you are liable for if you cancel.

cessation fee £20, deferred activation charge £40, cost for "free" equipment, at least £30, then you have to pay the remaining months left times your monthly subscription .

You do net even get a pro-rata discount on the equipment or activation charge for the months you have been with them.

If you move and stay with them, you will be subject to a new 18 month contract and the cost off cessation and activation charge.

Contracts over 12months should be banned !

They have really introduced a poorer service and a price rise.(Well what do you expect,it is owned by BT!)

You do not get web space or able to have a free fixed IP address, unless you have their more expensive service.

The website is misleading, as not every one can get the starter off of 5.99,

The old Option 1 worked well 9.95, 12 month contract, webspace, fixed IP if required, and 2GB allowance ideal for low users. Option 2 was good as well.

I have put a number of the senior citizens on to Option 1, small business and home users on Option 2, but I will now NOT recommend Plusnet any more, and should any of them want to upgrade I will suggest an alternative ISP.

Can you suggest an equivalent package with another ISP as I am on Option 1 at present with 2 months to run. I am a monthly customer and I agree about long term contracts because as soon as they have a enough people hooked they do a cull with support staff and you are left with a poor service and unable to change.
