What a time you're having. Thanks so much for updating us.
Rick probably wouldn't have known about the glandular fever, especially with having a tummy bug etc at the same time. I had it weeks before I found out. You feel weak and hugely lacking in energy which could be attributed to lots of other things. So sorry you have to see him suffer like this.
He's holding on strong, keep reminding yourself of this and don't allow yourself to think the worst, stay positive.

So sorry to hear this news. Any update?

Must re-iterate Sillyvixens comments about giving blood - please do if you can. Unfortuantly I cant as I have skin cancer & may never be able to. If I could I would. xx
    NEVER ASSUME!
  • It sounds much more positive than yesterday hun and that can only be a good thing.
You're all still in my thoughts. Please take care of yourself too.

I don't believe in the concept of hell, but if I did I would think of it as filled with people who were cruel to animals.

I've just seen this thread, and read through it all.I've got a lump in my throat.sending lots of positive thoughts his way(don't do prayers!).What a shocking Xmas for you and yours.I really hope Rick manages to pull through.he will certainly be in my thoughts.I lost my little bro to menigitis C aged 16,we didn't know he had it untill it had allready killed him.Thank goodness Rick got to hospital in time, and is in the best hands to take care of him,you just dont expect things like this to strike healthy young people at the start of their lives.
I have never got around to giving blood, always intended to,but I will make sure I do in the near future.
Loads of Love and hugs to your family.

update - Rick was given a blood thickening drug last night in the hope that it would stop the internal bleeding as the blood that he has been given is not producing the "Healing" cells that he desperately needs. there is a risk with giving him this drug but so far the blood has stopped(??) the bleed. his blood pressure is improving by itself so as the doctors say "slight improvement again".

we are all so numb and in shock as to how this has happened. only a few days ago Rick was here "psyching" the children up for Christmas whilst babysitting for us.
my eldest (6) knows Rick is poorly and has been quiet, but then again we all have.

things to do today: Stop googling ruptured spleen / glandular fever
    Give blood - its free

  • Just popped on to check how Rick is this morning. It does sound a bit more hopeful. I hope he continues to improve.
