This is a rebadged YAMADA 8400X and is an excellent deal! The cheapest I could find it online is at savapoint for £99.99,its £115 elsewhere!
For anyone who has bought this and needs to make it multiregion then use the following
(courtesy of http://www.thedvdforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=401443)
1. Turn on player (with Standby button on player), without any disc in the drawer
2. When "No Disc" appears on screen, open the tray (I used the button on the player, don't know if that matters)
3. Press 0, 0, 8, 6, 0, 0, 0 on the remote, then press "Select" on the remote
(the last number is the region setting - 0 for multiregion, other numbers for that specific region) - a 0 should appear on the screen
4. Turn player off (without closing tray first) using the button on the player.
Now when you turn on the player, it will be multiregion. I don't know if it defeats RCE (haven't tried it yet), but if it isn't, try doing the hack again and setting it to the specific region of the disc.
There is a firmware update here : Yamada 8400X Firmware Update, that fixes some recording glitches and adds support for more brands of media.

I've used it, and it works - just download the .zip file, extract the .iso and burn to a cdr - the player will recognise it. The machine shuts down after you press OK the last time. I couldnt get mine to come out of standby (I left it for a few minutes), but unplugging it and plugging it back in brought it back to life.
[STANDARD DISCLAIMER] This worked on my machine, if something should go wrong with yours, I in no way accept responsibility (besides, Tesco should take it back if you still have the reciept).[/STANDARD DISCLAIMER]Technika DVDR-2005 @tescos £79

No problem zac! As for the firmware hack (which is from Yamada themselves)I doubt whether it would affect the warranty as how would they know instore?Happiness is wanting what you have, not having what you want.

Tried to get one today from my local Tesco Extra after returning the crappy Alba one from Argos. Completely sold out and not expecting to have any more in. A good alternative for anyone who cant get the Tesco one is the Daewoo from Currys for the same price. Dont think its Divx but have tried recording this afternoon and am very pleased with results.0

Does this player play DivX??
I'm interested in a cheap DVD recorder that plays DivX but I'm not sure if it's worth waiting til the ones with built in hard drives come down in price (hopefully in the Jan sales!!)

No problem Zaccy, thank you for your input into this bargain. It doesn't look like I've had much 'thunder' with this as my thanks count has only gone up one and that was from you! lolHappiness is wanting what you have, not having what you want.

Gotta support the opinions here and reiterate that this is a great buy. Big thanks to Zaccy for his original post last week that first set me off considering this.
At the begiining of the week our nearest big Tesco had none, but had a bunch on the end of an aisle yesterday as a "special" so we hoisted one into the trolley. DivX on the big telly now - yippee, plus a long labour of love of converting old vhs tapes to dvd*************************
