No, BT's changes to its line rental options make no difference.

However, it was reported last year that BT plan to launch their own free (ad supported) DQ service this year and when that happens I will probably change the DQ number to that on my own Orchid dialler..

Two additions and one alteration were made to the program on Tuesday 19 February 2008.

Although the use a BT landline with Primus Saver Option 2 as CPS (Carrier PreSelect) calls provider remains the basic recommendation, the program will work with any calls provider which provides free (or inclusive) evening and weekend calls to UK 01, 02 and 03 numbers. It has, therefore, always been (and remains) possible to use the program with just BT Together Option 2 (until recently, a package only available to those paying a monthly fee) and a 18185 account.

BT's re-named version of BT Together Option 2 (the Unlimited Evening & Weekend Plan) still meets that basic requirement but, for those willing to commit to a 12 month 'rolling' contract, now has the attraction of being available without a monthly fee. Hence, with the major exception that its free calls are limited to 60 minutes instead of Primus's 90 minutes, it is nearly equivalent to Primus Saver Option 2. However, BT's Plan also specifically excludes free evening and weekend calls to the Channel Islands (whereas Primus's does not).

Hence, to ensure the program is suitable for the highest possible number of Orchid users (i.e. for those using BT's Unlimited Evening & Weekend Plan - either the free or paid-for version - as well as those using Primus Saver Option 2 or another CPS calls provider), two minor programming additions are necessary to take account of BT's exclusions. These are:

(1). Routing calls to 01481 (Guernsey) numbers via 18185 at all times
(the program already routes weekday daytime calls to this, and all other 01xxx STD codes, via 18185).

(2). Routing calls to 01534 (Jersey) numbers via 18185 at all times
(the program already routes weekday daytime calls to this, and all other 01xxx STD codes, via 18185).

    _____________________

Additionally, the recent arrival of a second* free Directory Enquiry service prompted a re-think of the programming for such services.

At the moment, dialling 118xxx or 192 results in a digit-translated routing via BT to the 23½p for up to two enquiries 118226 service (currently the least-expensive 'ordinary' 118 service).

However, for those willing to endure a 20-second advert before receiving the answer to their DQ enquiry (and/or wishing to avoid the 23½p charge), it is logical to route one or other of those translations to the new free service (but to leave the other translation to 118226). The below alteration was therefore also made to the program:

(3). Changing the (digit-translated) routing of calls when 192 is dialled from 1280#118226 to 1280#0800100100.

    * The first, 118FREE. appeared to require an unnecessarily-detailed and intrusive registration procedure before use and, although mentioned in a footnote to the program, was never considered for inclusion

Sounds good to me, Heinz. Thank you. I assume I just to a 'call home' thing on my Orchid dialler at the beginning of next month and it'll pick up your amended settings?

If you've 'subscribed' to the semi-automatic update system, you'll receive an e-mail from Orchid telling you when to do exactly that.

Heinz, I use your plan (ie BT’s Unlimited Weekend Plan, Primus Saver Option 2 and 18185), however, I don’t use an Orchid V4, I manually dial in relevant prefixes. Sorry if I’m being a bit slow to catch on, but would you mind confirming whether or not I’m meant to be changing anything as a result of recent BT changes. I have been reading all of the posts in connection with this, and thought it meant I just carried on as before, but just want to make sure. Many thanks.

(3). Changing the (digit-translated) routing of calls when 192 is dialled from 118226 to 0800100100.

Could you refresh my memory on how to make that change within CWclient.

Been a while since I have edited it.

I can't think of anything off the top of my head but, as I made a few minor changes to my '6 steps' (signature) post on 31 January, it might be worth having a quick scan through that again to see if you've overlooked something.

If you divert calls to your mobile using BT's £1.75/month Call Diversion Calling Feature, have you got Penny Mobile 2 - to cap the price of each diverted call at 20p for up to 20 minutes - yet?

Add 0800 10010 as one of your carriers (perhaps replace 118226 which you probably have their already)

Then look at 'Routing' and make sure the entry for 192 states "translate" and matches up to the 0800 10010 carrier code.

    Think I got it right.

May edit No 2 to the 0800 rule later to tidy it up.
