The Routing rule you need in the Orchid drop down menu in CW Client is:

    07 - Bar 07

Won't that bar all numbers that begin 07?

Do I need to add a extra line to the routing table for that or edit the Mobile A one already there?
Change the 07 - Mobile 'A' rule you already have to 07 - Bar 07.

However, as Quentin points out, that will also stop users dialling 070 (personal) and 076 (pager) numbers.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

If he want to bar calls to mobiles (6p/minute using 18185) I'm sure he wants to bar 070 numbers too - they're very much more expensive.

Maybe - but he wanted to specifically bar mobiles. My answers do this don't they?

    Your
Yes - you will need to alter your routing table:

    075 - 077 - 078 - 079 Bar at all times
would work - but there are no such options in the CW Client drop down menus.

He'd have to bar 07 and then add rows to allow 070 and 076 calls.

    Hi all,

Thanks for all the great help and advice, especially to Heinz for the "heinz program".

Just got my orchid v4, and am waiting for primus to activate me. Rather than use the "Heinz program" straight away (without Primus), wouldn't I save more by manually setting the orchid to route everything through 18185? by setting it manually, it won't affect many of the options that the Heinz program does - for instance 0800, evenings, weekends etc.

18185 is cheaper than BT for most things, isn't it?

    TIA!
    Andy

You'd be better off installing the Orchid now and forcing it to call home to pick up the Heinz program.

If you're on BT Together Option 1, there's no need to wait for Primus Saver Option 2 to go live because the Heinz program will route your weekday daytime UK 01/02/03 calls via 18185 because that's cheapest but, because they'll be free, will not route route your evening and weekend UK 01/02/03 calls (i.e. it'll just let them go via your default calls carrier, Primus).

However, before Primus is operational, your default calls carrier is BT Together Option 1 so those evening and weekend calls will cost you a flat rate 4½p (for up to an hour). Hence, there's no point paying 18185 for those (they'll be 5p).

Ah yes, thanks for that. I'll install it tonight...

Did anybody ever find out what the 1280 prefix does, if you don't have a CPS and you're on BT??

Surely it's effectively like dialling one's own STD code when one's at home - ie it doesn't do any harm but the redundant digits simply route one round an unnecessary circular path back to where one started from?

Digital exchanges are a bit cleverer than that. I would expect it to simply strip off the redundant digits (1280 and/or the STD code) and route the call using what's left. Routing the call round a circular path would just tie up valuable voice trunks unnecessarily.

But it would still be good to hear from someone without CPS who can tell us what really happens if they use the 1280 prefix.
