• thanks for the reply

Not 100% sure yet as to the problem i.e. it could be as stated above OR if the call home number is an 0845 number (allowed with my PTNS) as the documentation suggests then I was wondering if I needed to add 1470 instead as I have caller id withheld set up with my PTNS

ANyhow Im sure I can sort it out now with luck

The first Call Home from a V4 is usually to their 0845 (I think it's 0845 009 5718) number.

You must send your CLI so the server can detect your STD code and include it in the download to your dialler.

• sorted out the download after some fiddling

one final question that has occured to me ...

perusing the routing codes one sees generic ones like "01" & "02" but then more specific subset area codes like "01253 - Blackpool"

What happens if you set up a routing for both "01" and "01253" ? - which takes precedence ? - does their position in the routing table matter (e.g. the first one listed takes precedence ?)

Orchids route on the longest string - regardless of their position in your table of Routing rules.

For example, I have a rule which routes all 08 calls via BT at all times but other rules route 0845 and 0870 calls via 18185 at certain times. Hence, the '08 rule' means 0800, 0808, 0844, 0871 and 0872 calls all go via BT at all times but 'the 0845 rule' and 'the 0870 rule' take precedence and route them differently.

• Hello,

I don't know if this is the right place to ask or whether I should start a new post but I'm having problems with my Orchid v4 dialer. When I dial one of three things happens:

1. I get the "0p per minute" announcement and the call is connected properly - that's the good outcome

or if I am less lucky either:

2. I get the "0p per minute" announcement followed by silence: there's no ringing and no answer, and I have to hang up and redial

3. I do not get a "0p per minute" announcement but the phone rings out and I make the call; a month later I get a bill from BT showing that the call went through them.

Whilst typing, I've thought of a fourth problem:

4. I get a "number not recognised" type of announcement (can't remember the exact wording) even though the number is taken from the phone's memory so it is not mis-dialed.

That I'm having so many problems has caused me to remove the box and dial 18xxx in front of the number manually. Has anyone else had these problems?

One other strange phenomenon was that when the box used to be plugged in, I would often walk past the box to find that the LED was illuminated. After a few seconds it would go off. Yet no-one was on the phone. This used to get me paranoid that the box was dialing out but who was it calling and what was it sending?
• Hello again,

I thought I'd make a second post because this is about something different. I read the post about Heinz's program and it says to subscribe to the post to be notified of future changes. How do I subscribe to a post?

Another poster was asking if there could be a second version that did not use the primus saver 2 scheme in the evenings but used either BT option 2 or one-eight-something instead. I know it would be difficult to maintain lots of versions but I do think it would be wonderful if there could be two schemes; if you could make the second scheme for non-Primus people, like this poster suggested. Like the other poster said, it would be great for people who could not get Primus, and I think the other chap wanted it for work; presumably Primus is for domestic rather than commercial use? I'm looking into primus as we speak (see other post).

If I can get my Orchid 4 to work (see yet another post!), I will look into using this scheme. I think like others, I'm not too keen on losing control of my own settings but having said that, how often did any of us ever log in and change them? I never had much luck logging in with CW client.

Thanks for all your hard work heinz; I don't know how you find the time to analyse which teleco is best. I know I certainly didn't.

Sometimes 18185 does not always annouce the "0" pence per min, well not with me anyway.

As for all the problems, did you set up the Orchid program?

Maybe your time is set wrong, have you made it phone home recently?
(this is the 'force home' procedure), Lift Handset & dial
***12#4567890*3 (***00000000*3 DECT)
Replace handset

Do you have the powered version, if not does it ever get unpluged from phone line?

And lose it's settings.
I never had much luck logging in with CW client.

The most common error for not connecting is:
Change the Host IP address to read as: http://82.68.122.157/

Leave the Web Server address as Dial/CWServer.dll/
Click on OK

As for Primus and if you want the free evening/weekend calls make sure you ask for the right product, as it's hard to find on the internet.
Saver Option 2 Confirm rental stays with BT.

I've found that recently the 18185 post dialling delay has been much longer than before - perhaps owing to higher traffic levels?
Sometimes you have to wait 10-15 seconds after the "0p per minute" announcement before you get ring tone - so don't give up too soon...

There's no reason why the Heinz program couldn't be used by someone not on Primus but just on BT Option 2. In his program, 01/02/03 are set to go over the default operator. For someone on BT Option 2 with no CPS this would mean the calls would go over BT and be charged (or not) at Option 2 rates.

There's very little difference between BT Option 2 and Primus Saver Option 2 for 01/02/03 calls apart from 2 key things to bear in mind. One is that BT limits free calls to 01/02/03 numbers to 60 minutes (90 minutes on Primus) and an evening is defined by BT as 6pm-6am (by Primus it's 6pm-8am). Apart from bearing in mind those 2 things it should all work fine.

Absolutely correct.

Just to be clear, the 1280 prefix used in the program (to override the CPS and send some types of call via BT) has no effect when dialled on a 'non-CPS' BT line.
