You can now buy (from Tesco's anyway) Coleslaw dressing which I think is about 99p. I make my coleslaw using chopped chunky cabbage, carrot & onion and then mix with this dressing. The bottle makes about 4 or 5 lots of coleslaw.

  • Hi

When I do HM Coleslaw I use:

    1/2 standard cabbage
    4 large carrots
    2 medium red onions
Grate a little beetroot in at the end
    Smart Price Cheapie Mayo
    Salt & Pepper
    Chopped Chives

I just use my food processor and grate/chop up the cabbage, carrots, onions. I put them in a bowl covered till needed. When I want to make the coleslaw then i add the grated beetroot to the other veg, salt & pepper. Then add in the mayo-as much or little as you like. Always add a little as you can easily add more. To finish add some chopped chives and maybe some bacon bits

This will keep in the fridge for about 3 days.

    Hi,

I make my own coleslaw. It's easy, it's cheaper than the shop bought alternatives and it's got less additives - have you ever looked at the ingredients on shop bought coleslaw?

Personally I make mine really simply which is how all the restaurants I've worked in have made it too. They don't use onion as it turns the coleslaw rancid - so the experts say.

    White cabbage
    Carrot
    Mayo
    Salt and pepper

Mix ingredients until consistency and colour is OK.

For a low fat version add low fat yohurt, a spash of lemon juice and seasoning to the veg. :)

I find it tastes better (to me anyway! :) ) if I use half mayo/half salad cream with the white cabbage, onion, carrot and a pinch of salt

you can add sultanas to it as well which can be lovely - not to everyones taste.

cheesy coleslaw I think was mentioned above

don't underestimate how much seasoning you can put in, it adds lots of taste!!

I like Mary berry's recipe which involves mixing the shredded cabbage with vinaigrette for a few hours before you add the carrot and onion and mayonnaise. i think the vinegar helps to soften the cabbage so it tastes better in the final mix
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!
