    Can anyone recommend a reliable way of keeping ants out of my kitchen? I don`t want to kill them - just keep them in the garden. I also have a young cat so do not want to put poison down.

    a friend of mine swore by putting a small pile of sugar in garden every morning, furthest part away from house. it kept them busy, and they never came inside.

    a line of talcum powder across the doorways should work, if it doesn't you have a lot of white and nice smelling ants :j

    there have been several threads regarding ants, probably in Your Home.

    Fill a squirt bottle with plain old cheap white vinegar , and squirt it anyplace you've seen ants (kitchen counters, windowsills, etc) and let it dry.

    If the infestation is really bad the pest controller from your local council can help with advice about treatment. May even supply materials too.
