I have been with MAAF for about 14 months. I pay 17.99/month.
I had one period when I had no broadband. I am not 100% happy with the way the problem was dealt with and my subsequent request for a refund for loss of service, the fact is I did receive some refund. Day to day I have no concerens about the service.
My question is this, given that many ISPs have people grumbling about them, should I bother leaving MAAF to make a saving of, at the most £5 or £6/month and risking aggravation. Would it be a Moneysaving step too far?
I don't want to link into a mobile or TV package. I might change my homephone - currently post office - but it is hardly used for calls. Thus I am very wary of using TalkTalks offer.
I did ring MAAF and talked about leaving and I was surprised not to be offered a special, 'please don't leave us' discount. Is this usual?

Hi Bribri,
In response to:

I'm not sure why you weren't offered a better deal. I would have to look over your account and the notes on the conversation to find out what happened. I am, of course, happy to review your account to see if we can offer you a better deal to stay with us.
Kind regards,

Hi Ben500,
In response to your post:Was just wondering I know a very select few people who use madasafish and they all have one thing in common, they absolutely hate it, what are your experiences? is it really that bad?
Could you please mention to your friends that I post in here? If they haven't already I'd be keen to know what their complaint is with our services and to see what I can do to correct it.
Thank you
Kind regards,

Hi Samara,
Yesterday I was using the PC to "listen again" when my broadband link failed:
The 3rd from the left green light on the Voyager 210 router had turned off.
I left it over night, hoping that the tooth fairy might sort it out.
This morning, I had got as far as plugging phone & PC directly into the test socket behind the fascia plate on BT's socket. Then I remembered that I had been here before and the solution is to repeat Step 5 "Connect to Broadband" in the pink/mauve quick start guide.
Bingo, that did the trick.
The first thing I did was a "thinkbroadband" speed test.
I got 4.7Mbps WOW!!
I plugged the face plate back in, thus reconnecting my extension socket and repeated the speed test.
I got about 3.3Mbps
Currently it has downgraded itself down a "step" to 2.8Mbps, the best of my three normal performance "steps".
Yes I have these points covered.
1. A microfilter fitted into every phone socket that is in use.
2. I'm using the supplied 1.5 - 2 meter telephone extension cables supplied by MAAF in conjunction with the router.
3. I'm connected via an Ethernet cable to the router which is connected to the master socket.
Have you, or anyone else, got any thoughts on how I can get at a 66% improvement in my speed without resorting to a screwdriver and removing the face plate each time I surf the net?
kind regards, Harry
PS http://www.thinkbroadband.com/ has an interesting news item for 26apr07@21:10 - looks like we will have to move to Paris if we want impressive speeds in the foreseeable future ?0 -
Hi Myself123,
I apologise for not posting replies to your queries earlier, I somehow missed your post!
In response to:the property i am moving into next week has a bt master socket, do i just need to give you a ring and you will sort out reconnection , is reconnection free ?, how long should it take? and what is the minimum term contract?,many thanks
If your new property has a BT master socket on one of the walls, you can sign up online but make sure that you click on the link: I don’t have a BT phone line/number.
We'll need to do a check on your address to see if a line exists and if it’s a working line or a stopped line. Sometimes a property has a BT socket but there is no line installed e.g. brand new properties. If a working/stopped line is found in his property then we can reconnect it and issue a new number for free.
If you're moving in the same exchange catchment area then you'll have the option to retain your existing number. If the check indicates that there is no line at your new property then a new line installation may be required. This will cost £115 (£10 cheaper than BT) and we will contact you before proceeding with the order should such a charge be applicable.
Starting a stopped line takes just 1 day to reconnect and issue a new number but if it’s reconnecting a working line or a new line install, then it can take up to 10 working days. Madasafish Talk operates on a one month rolling contract. Please let us know 28 days in advance should you wish to cancel your talk service with us.
Hope that's helpful!

Hi Harryhound,
Could you please check each microfilter from the test port?
Unplug everything from all phone sockets in your home and take all the microfilters and one by one test them from the test port. Check your sync rate with each one and if you see a sudden drop in sync with one filter in particular than we've found the culprit.
If all filters give roughly the same sync rate then next step if plug one device back into the phone line at a time and check the sync rate after you add each device.
Kind regards,

I'm curious as to what this "test port" is? Is it supposed to be integrated into the BT master socket? If I remove the front of my master socket, which has 2 outlets and has BT logo, it's just like any other in the house. A manky 2 core copper wire from outside which in turn is connected to a further external junction box at roof level and 2 smaller wires crimped on to enable fitting into the numbered internal connections of the socket. A very crude installation!0

Not all installations have an NTE5 Master socket with a test socket:
It is not normal for a master socket to have two outlets as you describe, so it may not be an official BT installation. Any internal extension wiring is connected to the removable bottom half, which can easily be isolated from the BT side wiring for testing etc. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
Thanks espresso, my socket's not that type. I would assume it's definitely BT though, unless someone else is supplying double outlets with "BT" and the "gay trumpeter" log at the top left of the facia!0

Yes agreed but it may have been fitted unofficially as BT marked sockets are even available at boot sales etc. Never heard of a double master socket fitted by BT that's all. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0
