hi just got a letter from the halifax saying that they have 8 weeks to investigate and respond to any complaints is this correct or are they just delaying tactics thanks
You'll find the answers to any question you pose in the Halfiax thread. The answer to this is to stick to the deadlines you have set, if your unhappy with this response, write back to them stating that and that you a definate answer within 14 days. if they then send you a letter stating refer to previous correspondance then you start your court action.
Hope that helps, but please read through the threads as many people asked questions that you'll be thinking."I AM THE GATEKEEPER OF MY OWN DESTINY" Nacho Libre

Hi
This seems to be the de-facto response (at least from the Halifax) stating that under the FSA regulations they're permitted 8 weeks to respond to a conusmer complaint. (They even include a cheery leaflet to the same effect).
My advice here is to respond to them saying that you havent made a complaint, rather that it is a threat of legal action, and that the 14 days stands.
(This of course depends upon how your first letter was worded - you will have needed to state your intents and timescales previously).
There is a massive difference between lodging a complaint and making a threat of legal action....
Hope all goes well for you.

I sent the 1st template re bank charges to the Halifax giving them 14 days to respond with a list of charges. I've received a letter day from Halifax saying that they are sorry to learn that I am unhappy with the charges debited to my bank account and that the complaint handling rules set by the FSA give them 8 weeks to investigate and respond to complaints. Is this right? What shall I do next? do I wait or write to them again? Any advice would be most grateful
Thanks

I sent my letter threatening court action to Abbey on the 14th April.
I received a reply this morning-14th April telling me "Our research is taking longer than expected and we will write to you again in four weeks time to let you know how we are getting on"
Are they stalling for time?
Do they think I'm bluffing?
And what do I do now?
Please help!!!
thank you0 -
hi,
yes, they are stalling.
can you give any details of your claim?

Hi,
I think that on the whole every bank is doing this, so in answer to your questions:
Yes they are stalling for time (but given the thousands of people doing the same as us they are probably snowed under)
No they know you aren't bluffing.
Once the 14 days are up in which you've said you'll commence court action go ahead.
I'm at roughly the same stage as you and there are loads of other people on here too who are going through this.
chin up!!

The 8 weeks that the banks mention is the time limit they are given by the FO to deal with a complaint and this is a standard letter they are sending out along with the leaflet from the FO.
Stick to your timetable of 14 days and send off your next letter at the appropriate time as in the step by step guide in Martin's article below.

Hi
I am in the middle of claiming charges back from Abbey, they wrote to me saying that they were investigating my complaint and I should here back from them within 4 weeks, however towards the end of the 4 weeks I had another letter from them apologising for the delay but "they want to make sure my complaint is investigated thoroughly and they hope to get back to me within another 4 weeks". I can't help but feel that maybe they are fobbing me off! Has anyone else had this?0
