Batfink : "I thought about doing a spending diary, but its too late after I've spent the money".:rotfl:

For some reason this made me really laugh....sorry...warped sense of humour.

As we live 30 miles from the nearest "proper" shops I'm not really subject to the same temptation plus I would be too embarassed to be seen in anything from any sports shop. Any Lycra would be stretched to breaking point:o

I have never been able to remember to update a spending diary but I have now trained myself to only take a small amount of cash with me so that puts a limit on what I can buy. I only have an Electron debit card so its a brake in that if I haven't remembered to put money in to the account(if I've got any!) then I can't spend it.
I've surprised myself by how often I wanted to buy something but the lack of cash meant I couldn't and then the "I must have that" thought passes.

Not much help to you I'm sure but its how I deal with my spending habits.
    I'm sure its all kidology;)

I'm doing great at the gym now - although I'm not loosing weight I am loosing size and gaining tone which is great, I look forward to going to the gym in fact. However, I am spending money like a demon. How *do* you all manage so much self control? Its a certainty that I will be out of work by the end of October, but I still cannot stop buying things I don't need. I've got more gym clothes than a branch of JJB now, my Autumn wardrobe is already worthy of my own Top Shop, I've got so many DVD's to watch etc etc.

I thought about doing a spending diary, but its too late after I've spent the money.

Phil! There you are! I nearly yelped with delight at the news that you've got into weight training and better, that you're seeing results! Remember the FFW mantra...

;) Muscle Weighs More Than Fat ;)

Hurrah for you on that score, mate! And it happened to me too. I've been seriously weight training for six weeks now. The first five weeks I saw no change at all on the scales - but at least it didn't go up! This morning I weighed myself and - 1lb off! Not much, but it's a result and yes, I feel so much more toned too! Perhaps we should start the Hard Core Heavy Weights thread? :rotfl:

Don't worry about the money already spent, unless there's anything you can take back? As far as kit is concerned, well, to a certain extent you do need this (I think it should be clean on every time you work out!). But if you're rivalling JJBs it's time to stop now.

Spending diary As I say, the money already spent is gone. But the reason why you should start a spending diary TODAY is to get you into the habit of keeping one. I started mine this week and I have to say that payday was the worst list I've ever seen BUT I do then to stock up for the month ahead on payday so the purse takes quite a hammering. Keeping a diary makes you think before you shop. If you know you have to write it down for later inspection, you'll concentrate your mind wonderfully. I'm sitting here today thinking "oooh I'd love to rush out and buy all the papers" but I know that I can read them on line and frankly, I also know that most of the papers will be flipped through and not read line by line. I reckon I've save around a fiver today.

Have a good week all cuddlies!

PS - anyone seen LA recently? I'm missing her posts!
 What if the hokey cokey is what it's all about?

Freebird bounces merrily back into view....all tanned and refreshed from a week of .....um......drinking yummy cocktails and eating houmous, greek salad, garlic pitta bread, grilled fish and moussaka and ice cream and....you get the drift. I stepped on the scales with dread this morning only to find...that I'm exactly the same weight as when I went away!!
    :j
Now this may not be a success in terms of my mission to lose 2lb, but I reckon a holiday and NO weight gain has to be some kind of a success.

Hey Phil....well done with all the exercise......as for the spending, why don't you try a very simple tactic that I use. Whenever I see something that I fancy (frequently!), I make myself stop and say "Do I need this, or just want it?" If it's just want then thoughts of the DFW board and all our efforts pop into my mind and I put the item back. It really works.

    Talking of work......urgh.....

Welcome back freebird and definitely well done for not putting on any weight :)

I have been such a good boy this week and cancelled my Pre-order for a Nintendo Wii and some games, which is £250 saved on the 8th December (when they are due). Instead, I bought the game I most wanted the Wii for for my aged PC instead - which cost..... £7.99 from Play.com and I'm hoping it'll be in todays post.

I'm going to start a spending Diary on 1st October (this sunday) and definitely use the 'Do I really need this?' guilt trip every time I see something. Recently I've found myself shopping out of boredom which I think needs to be addressed to help me be more frugal.

I did apply for a new job yesterday which I really liked the sound of, so keep your fingers crossed for me please. :)

I'm feeling an urge to bake cakes today - which is funny as I've never done it before and my kitchens full of dust. (I'm not a How Clean is Your House? candidate - I'm refurbishing my house while I don't live there, the kitchen is finished but the rest of the house isn't .... )

I'm a yabbering fool today so I'm going to stop.

    Have a great day

  • Thanks Freebird- glad you had a good holiday! And congratulations on not putting on any weight, you are right- that is a major acheivment!! :T

    Hope work isn't too bad.....
  • Actually work involves getting my tax return in...but guess whose records are in chaos! Ooops.

And I know this has nothing to do with this board BUT.....I've just discovered that I missed out on two tickets for the Ideal Home show that Martin was giving away....I got lucky and my name came up in the draw, but somehow I missed my name on the list....and was away when they sent out a reminder. They've now had a re-draw so someone else got them. Gutted!

I could have taken you Batfink...hehehehe...I'm "re-building" my place too so I know all about that dust everywhere......cleaning is a nightmare!

May be I should stop wandering around MSE and do some work.....:rotfl:
  • Aww, thats a shame about the Ideal Home show - we'd have been able to strut round looking all thin and wealthy :)

Well done Freebird! Not putting on weight on holiday is a pure triumph, I always come home with at least 5 extra pounds, and I don't mean excess baggage......or maybe I do! *LOL* ;)

I've fallen off the FFW wagon, I've been off work with a rotten cold, so over-indulged on comfort foods! Including a large bar of Green & Blacks chocolate in one sitting! :o

So today, I'm back on my bike, with a healthy homemade lunch and steely determination, to lose more weight this week and not weigh myself until next Wednesday. I'm going to pick some random pages in this thread for inspiration. :cheesy:
