I put:
omega ladies watch 197
into advanced Google (must contain all words)
and this was top of the list.
http://www.old-omegas.com/
You won't get a better known make - shame its not a man's watch.:D
(If you have a Rolex, most people will think it is a fake - If you are travelling with a bus pass like me)
I've taken my CYMA to pieces, all but the "glass", and worked out that the gold content at 14 ct is worth less than 100 GBP.
So for the moment, I've sent in the scrap gold without it.
Now all I need to do is teach myself Ebay;)0 -
Yesterday,. a little bit worried that some crook at the Post Office, might manage to steal my bag, I weighed the bits and pieces on some letter scales and filled in the on-line HGM form.
This was emailed back to me with reference numbers added.
So I had to print this off and put it in the bag with the scrap, which was made up of
Large collar stud / small collar stud & gents signet ring / ladies curtain ring style wedding band / small silver paper clip .
Quite frankly it was the sort of stuff that might turn up at a boot sale.
So I paid my 4.95 and handed over my reused bag at the local post office.
This morning I got back this email:gary@hattongardenmetals.com

Must keep an eye open for similar stuff.
(some details have been changed to confuse the guilty:D)0 -
I can recommend them too. I sent our 9ct (14.8g) gold on Wednesday and received our payment today. I took the same items into Local Jeweler/pawnbroker and were quoted £78. I received £117.07 from Hatton Garden Metals. The website shows you the expected value of your items prior to you sending them unlike some. Most were broken items that I considered uneconomical to have repaired. This is how it should be done!If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you! :dance:0

I always check MSE for consumer advice and got the details of Hatton Garden Metals. I got a quick quote online using the calculator. I then thought I'd pop in to a local jeweler/pawnbroker and see how much he'd offer me. As well as being the most miserable person who has ever graced a retail establishment, he offered me HALF what I received in the end from HGM. He told me to get back in touch and he'd send all his stuff to them! Seriously I thought that apart from the Special Delivery cost, there would be extra commission or some such hidden in the small print. THERE WASN"T. As the item I sold was of sentimental value but unrepairable I can now buy something else which is a big deal when you are looking at £20 Vs £40.0

Hgm Fantastic service, sent them:
16g of hallmarked 9ct gold
41g of what I thought was 9ct (not hallmarked)
29g of hallmarked 18ct
25g of non hallmarked 18ct
They received it today at 8:00am and I have just received an email saying that their was more gold than I thought and to say that I have been paid £1331.25p by BACS straight into my bank account:j:T
Cheers HGM and to you guys for putting me onto them.:money:0 -
Excellent service, sent them some old jewellery yesterday and the money in my account by lunchtime. Can't praise them enough!0

Another dilemma, as high gold prices encourage us to scrap items of our heritage:
I have inherited an old fountain pen that I would guess comes from the "inter war" period of 1918 to 1939.
To an inter war office worker his pen was a status symbol as well as a tool of his trade. A bit like flashing your "Blackberry" these days.
It self evidently has a "gold" nib, as it is totally unmarked by the passage of time.
The nib is marked 14 c , which I would think means the whole nib is 14 carat ?
This pen was made by Del la Rue using the trade mark "Onoto".
So in the hour it has taken me to post this entry in the thread, Google has turned up all sorts of interesting information:
* First "leakproof" design of fountain pen (though I see the plunger was later joined by the lever design I remember from my school days)
* A best selling pen in Japan, possibly due to its Asian sounding brand name. (Funny how we seem to have lost the knack of originating iconic brands?).
* Branded as a "London" firm, but possibly made in Fife Scotland.
* Original design by George Sweetser of North London.
Perhaps this is something else that I should try offering on Ebay?

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/debate/columnists/article-368575/When-young-pen-pals.html- The De La Rue Group continues to use and develop plastics materials in its many varied business interests including banknote threads, holograms, security documents and printing components. It remains the world’s largest security printer.

After reading the posts on here I sent a ladies 9ct gold watch to HGM yesterday and received £81.50 in my account today. Really pleased with that as the most I had been offered from local jewellers was £50. Excellent service.0

Have been following this thread for some time and was slightly sceptical about sending gold through the post after reading some of the comments on here. But I decided to send off some small pieces of 9ct yesterday afternoon (which I hadn't worn in years anyway), and today (less than 24 hours after I'd taken the envelope to the PO) the money is in my account. Very impressed and would use them again.0

Bit the bullet yesterday and sent off the scrap gold that has been sitting in the bottom of my jewelery box for years. I used hatton garden metals, having nearly used one of the tv advert ones!! (So glad I didn't!!)
- When did you use it - yesterday
- What did you send it - 9grm 9ct gold, 4grm 14ct gold
- How much did it promise you - £73 and £48
- How much did it deliver - £74.52 and £51.52
- How efficient was the service - amazing, I sent yesterday just before 3pm and I had an email this morning sayign how much was being paid by bacs.
- If it didn't deliver the full amount, what was its reason - N/A
- Anything else other people should know - nothing that I noticed, they have done exactly what they said they would. I would highly reccomend them for SCRAP gold.
You never know how strong you are until you have no other option.0
