I was rear ended a few years ago in my beloved "Mindy"- a 1275, slightly rough around the edges mayfair that went like...ahem...a sensibly driven car, officer.
I was waiting at a junction when a BMW 3 series driver behind me "thought I'd gone (luv)" and accellerated hard into Mindy in an attempt to get out before the oncoming car I was waiting for...
Mindy was written off, the BM escaped virtually unharmed- it's driver was lucky to...I went for the throat...
However, luckily I reacted fast enough and the mini was light enough to enable me to stop her before hitting oncoming traffic on the other side of the main road. It shook me up for a while- but I always have driven/ridden as though everyone else is about to do something stupid anyway, and it's saved my skin on many occasions.
We now have a 998cc Traveller on the drive, awaiting donor parts (coming from a friend who's on a Mini bender), welding and a respray...it's our 19 year old's first car, and will hopefully be done for when she takes (and passes, hopefully!) her test. It's no looker- I've nicknamed it "Munter" but it's already loved.
I'm now jealous & on the lookout to ditch my Mazzie 323F (which is a great car in itself) for something more...erm...Mini...
It's one of those things, you either "get" Mini's or you don't. They have soul :T
Now what I would really like is a Riley elf, but don't tell the hubby!

I think that we all seem to be forgetting that the original Mini was a product of British engineering at it's very worst.
They were unreliable, uncomfortable, oil dripping, rust buckets, which to add insult to injury, were / are a nightmare to work on.
Well apart form the nighmare to work on bit that describes most everyday cars designed in the fifties. It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0 -
I did notice the 'white' thing as well actually, and those round crests were cooper logos weren't they? Guess I just overlooked it at the time hehe. Seems a bit strange though does it really mean its definately a ringer?
I thought most modern cars were a lot more complicated than a simple mini and therefore more difficult to work on? Although I know different about the 2CV; parts were just ridiculous, almost everything had to be 'special' (and more expensive) 2CV things because it wouldn't take normal ones.0 -
Its the little details that give the game away, As i said its hard to tell from a photo.
The doorshuts were all red, as were the insides of the doors, underside of the bonnet and the bulkhead were also red, hard to do this without removing the engine & components fitted to the bulkhead.
Seen many tax exempt mini's sell on ebay when they were clearly much newer..0 -

Minis are mechanically simple but they're hard to work on due to the limited space under the bonnet. There's basically no room to get to anything. It's my problem, it's my problem

Interesting, I hadn't thought of that. Unlike a Morris Minor I believe, which has loads of space. Friend of my father's fitted a rover V8 from an SD1 into one I am told, many years ago. He is a mechanic though!
A chap called Nick mann used to hillclimb a minor fitted with a bored out Rover V8 fitted with a turbo and Nitrous Oxide injection. It was still road legal as well. It's my problem, it's my problem

Hi again people, I've now seen this...
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250527238149&_trksid=p2759.l1259
Might go and look at it, what do you think? Is this suspension work likely to cost a bomb?
Thanks again!0 -

It doesnt look too bad although bare in mind it is a classic and you will need to expect to have to do work on it and deal with problems like rust etc0
