Get your parents to ask their insurers the question.

We ran some old Accents in Ireland for our site engineers. Tough little cars, even our German engineers couldn't break them.

Ah yes, good idea! Judging by all your comments I do seem to have bought something half decent. :D

Just thought I'd let you know, I spoke to a guy from Admiral earlier at length and they've offered me a pretty good price for insurance. He gave me a years no claims bonus even though I've only been a named driver, on a non Admiral policy which I thought was pretty good, took another £150 off the price. We're now looking at a 'multicar' policy to include my Accent AND my mum in her corsa for £936 in total. Not bad at all considering this started with a moneysupermarket quote of over £1000 for just the Accent!

Well, I collected it this afternoon and I'm pleased with it thus far. I drove it about 60 miles home and it seems nicer to drive than the 1.0 corsa I'm used to, and copes a bit better on the motorway.

I was slightly concerned by the bite point of the clutch, seemed quite high, although there wasn't much travel in the clutch overall. It stalled quickly when I brought the clutch up with handbrake on and without gas, and didn't seem to slip on the way home (I would know if it was doing so wouldn't I?) Would those of you who've had Accents before be able to advise whether this high bite point is normal? Thanks again.

Not that I recall did it have a high biting point.

I had a new clutch in my one at about 70k and tbh even when it started going I got a years life out of it.

It was a fairly reasonable price for the clutch anyway if it comes to the worst.

Ok, thanks. My dad's now had a drive in it and thinks its fine so I don't think I've much to worry about.

Well that was interesting; just went on the VOSA website which gave me all the MOT history since 2005, and the number of the garage that did it. So I called them and they said they've looked after it for a good few years, servicing it every year. It had a NEW clutch in August which is pretty good, and cambelt was last done 2006 @ 44k miles.
This car is turning out to be better than it first looked!

I've noticed a vibration in the steering wheel when the car gets to between 65 and 75 on the motorway. Its not a hugely alarming vibration; its quite slight really, its just noticeable and annoying. Do my wheels need balancing? And is this cheap?

    possibly yes.

Had a similar problem although it started around 80 and was balancing/tracking

Take it to a place like kwik fit and they will do it for £20, just remember that its unlikely you need 4 new tyres and brakes.

Thought so, thanks. I know for almost fact I don't need new tyres and brakes as the tyres are brand new and the brakes feel similarly new.
I was thinking it could be the road surface, but I think that's only responsible for part of it.
Also, I'm doing a 160 mile round trip tonight, should I really get it done before?
