Tesco racketeering?

I just have to vent this!
Sunflower seeds - 300g pack were 45p. The next week they've gone up to £2.96.
I contacted Tesco and they said it had been a poor harvest and they had to pass the price on to the consumer. My googling found no indication of a bad harvest. Tesco never replied to my email re harvest.
Instead bought my supply in local Health food store at £3.23 a kilo.
Watch their prices - if I'd been on autopilot when I went in for my usual 6 packets I'd have been caught for a £15 price hike.

Yep, I thought that sunflower seeds had suddenly got expensive, but couldn't remember what they used to cost.
Am getting more fed up with Tesco's by the day, there is less and less of my normal shopping that I can get from my local Tesco's now as they're changing the ranges they stock.Snootchie Bootchies!0 -
Tesco are Britain's biggest discounter, and may be Britain's biggest price hiker :rotfl:0

I was shocked when I decided to buy some Value baked beans. I thought they were supposed to be about 8p a tin? They were 29p!!!0
-
They had an advert in this weeks papers for Hardy's Crest Shiraz at £10.68 rrp per bottle reduced by 50% to £5.34
They've just made up that rrp !!
The most expensive I've seen it in any supermarket is £7.99 per bottle and it's usually BOGOF at that price.
Racketeering is about the right word for it0 -
Guys, guys, guys, wait till d.edna reads this board! It'll be:
"No-one's forcing you to go to Tesco's are they?"
"Have you never thought there might be other reasons for the price rise?"
"They're not a charity"
"Seriously, stop it, stop doing Tesco's down, you know it's the best value, that's why you all shop there"
"What do you want them to do, give their stuff away for free?"
"I bet you were really rude to the staff about it too"
"Seriously, leave me alone and stop harassing me"
"You need not reply"
etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc ad nauseam.....0 -
Ive noticed this rather "stealthy" and extortionate rise of cost in Tesco for various items "ASHAMEDLY" on the "no Frills" or "own brands",
they used exactly the same "feeble" excuse for Baked beans (bad crop), No there wasnt, Heinz, Lidl and even Aldi, managed alright.
They are slowly beginning to sound more like the feeble excuses British Rail; used to give "wrong leaves", "wrong type of snow", ....Desperate. just BE HONEST...."coz folk are buying it now, were hoping to see just how "high" we can get the cost, before you stop buying it.:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A

Did they just pluck that out of the air, or what?
As you say, 8 or 9 quid is the most I've ever seen it for...
(don't get me wrong, I like the stuff, it just ain't £11 a pop)

Yes, and this isn't confined to Tesco's. Asda, Morrison and Sainsbury's have all hiked their plain-label ranges, particularly the most popular lines such as baked beans and tinned tomatoes. It's up to them of course, and I can see their strategy, but at the end of the day there are cheaper alternatives available at Netto and Aldi (we don't have a Lidl here, sadly) so I go there for tinned stuff. Let's hope they don't hike their prices too!0 -
They had an offer on the other week, cant remember exactly but it was bottles of cider, the offer was something like £1.50 a bottle or buy 3 for £5.00...
I questioned it with the girl in the aisle, who just shrugged. Didnt bother after that.0 -
Ah Tesco, every little hurts. I hear their profits are down as well. They have the only supermarket filling station where I live. Needless to say it is not the cheapest and still sat at 92.9p.
Never mind, My tesco coupons will be worth about £20.20p spend this quarter, and that was a few weeks back now.
