Advice on Potty training

This is a great post, I am trying to potty train my 26 month old DD now and apart from one poo success we just get lots of sitting on the potty but no results yet!
Don't you know what they say about a "watched pot" lol
She'll get there don't worry. The best thing you can do is be patient, give lots of encouragement and not try to rush it.
As every mum knows......they all get there in the end!"One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -
The poster, incidently not me, said that in their opionion as a Nursery Nurse it was too early as she has vast experience of potty training in her work environment.I think you are far too early. I'm a nursery nurse and we would have never considered training a child that young.
1. She states 'far too early' - and as Gracie P states this can be quite discouring
2. Do you know how long she has been a nursery nurse for, did she state that she had vast experience of potty training in her work environment?
I wouldn't send my child to a nursery that refuses to potty train until the child can communicate verbally - what a terrible way to run such an establishment.0 -

Being in a room with a zillion toddlers day in day qualifies vast experience to me.
I wouldn't send my child to a nursery that refuses to potty train until the child can communicate verbally - what a terrible way to run such an establishment. In your opinion; it is a widely accepted method of potty training though. Do you think a nursery with many children could spend all day watching for signs that each child needed a wee?
3) How many children have you potty trained?
4) How long did it take you?
5) ...
Getting silly now isn't it?"On behalf of teachers, I'd like to dedicate this award to Michael Gove and I mean dedicate in the Anglo Saxon sense which means insert roughly into the anus of." My hero, Mr Steer.0 -
I really don't know why you are being so hostile toward me.
Because you obviously want me to say 'You're absolutely right'. I don't think you are, and i don't actually think i am being hostile, merely answering the points you keep bring up.
You are from the opposit end of the scale to the person you are slating in that your attitude is that babies, not toddlers/pre-schoolers, are perfectly capable of potty training, because apparently you were. Do you not think you persistantly stating that exceptionally young children are capable (who are in a small minority in Western society) could also be upsetting to the mother if her son doesn't take to training at this moment in time?"On behalf of teachers, I'd like to dedicate this award to Michael Gove and I mean dedicate in the Anglo Saxon sense which means insert roughly into the anus of." Except that one poster categorically told her that 21 months is far too early and comments like that can be awfully discouraging.
I see where your coming from Gracie P - I meant it was a bit late for the op to start the sans approach with her son.
I think if you ask for opinions on here in my experience you will generally get a mixture of negative and positive.
Especially when it comes to children everyone thinks differently and likes to think they've done the right for them and their particular child.
I agree that saying outright that 21 months is far too early could be discouraging but hopefully the OP hasn't taken it to heart too much0 -

liney why are you questioning posts if we are entitled to our own opinions?
2. Being in a room with a zillion toddlers day in day qualifies vast experience to me. Not necessarily
3. It is a widely accepted method of potty training though. Maybe it is but it doesn't make it the correct method
Do you think a nursery with many children could spend all day watching for signs that each child needed a wee? But not all are going to be potty training at the same time0 -

Is there a correct method for toilet training?
I would be surprised if at the nursery my son and daughter attended they would have been able to cope with watching for signs that the particular child in training needed to go until it was a little too late.:o
When I was toilet training my DS I told them what I was doing and they were co-operative but he had far more accidents at nursery than at home but I guess that could be for a number of different reasons?0 -
I think its up to the individual child and mum. We've had my DD out of daytime nappies since June and she is 3 in Feb. We still rarely have a dry day (She's wet herself twice already this morning) bu we only have problem's with weeing. I think I started her way way too early but went with the assumption that I didnt want to go backwards and confuse her. She goes through good periods and then regresses. Having spoken to my mum it was the thing to get them out of nappies around the 1 mark when we were growing up (I'm 36 today!!) but she says that they werent without daily accidents for a long time.
Mum gave me some advice ages ago. Ask around for advice and opinions then make up your own mind. Go with the flow, try not to get too upset about it. Am def waiting until my DS is at least 3 before starting him. Was too keen and eager with my first. Hey ho.0
