The previous version, which ran to 36 pages between 1/10/05 and 8/2/06, is still available to read though.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0

For Land -> Mobile, the 0844 462 1919 Discount Dial number is a better deal?
Its 2p/min all the time, plus standard connection fee.0 -

The number 462 19 19 might work. But the correct number now is
0844 462 23 23 2p a minute from a BT Landline.10% more if you call from Onetel.
See https://www.discount.co.uk and http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/cgi-bin/viewnews.cgi?newsid1074453956,39481,#landlines
Their is no connection charge to call it.But a minimum call charge applies of approx 5p applies if you make short call, hit voicemail etc etc.But if your call lasts more then 2 and a half minutes, this cost is included in call price.PF.0 -
Welcome to any new readers of the Telephone Boards coming into this thread via Martin's article featured in this weeks email.

Hello, wise telephone gurus!
I'm looking for a bit of clarification on Martin's new guidelines for wringing the best value out of telephone service providers. Currently I'm paying line rental to BT (Option 1), with calls routed via Just Talk for free evening and weekend calls, and I use 1899 for weekday and mobile calls, all as per his previous advice. However, I am a very light user (Louise No-Mates) and on reading his updated advice I think I could save money by switching to the Post Office for line rental. However, I'm not sure if I can then still use Carrier Pre-select or 1899. Martin doesn't mention it, which makes me think they aren't an option, sadly, but I thought I would throw the question to the board and see what you all think.
Thank you in advance for your help,
Louise0 -

2. No - pricefighter specifically phoned to ask them the 1899 question (see Post #51 HERE) and eventually got hold of someone with a bit of knowledge. Apparently, they're blocking short codes like 1899.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Edwinjbernard see post 5 here http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=140578
confirms this to be the case, and therefore withdrew his application for service.PF.0 -
