Eleven alterations were made to the program in the 26 October 2008 update. The reasons for doing so were:
(1). Adding 18185's freephone gateway number, 0808 1 703 703, to the list of Carriers will enable routing via that, instead of the 18185 prefix, to benefit from:
(2). 4p/minute calls to UK mobiles at weekends;
(3), (4) & (5). ½p/minute calls to 0845 numbers weekdays, evenings & weekends;
(6). 5p/minute weekday calls to 0870 numbers and
(7). 1p/minute weekend calls to 0870 numbers.

(8), (9), (10) & (11). Routing local, 01, 02 and 03 calls via BT at weekends will mean that those calls (which are inclusive in BT's Unlimited Weekend Calls Plan), will then automatically count as 'qualifying calls' for free Caller Display and/or basic 1571.
N.B. Originally, Sunday 26 October 2008 was chosen for these updates because that was also the day on which the BST to GMT clocks change was due and so Orchid users registered for the Heinz program should have been able to make one 'force home' call to simultaneously download the updated program and the time change. Unfortunately Orchid's server failed the previous Friday and so the program download was delayed and ALL USERS were advised to manually correct their clocks on that day instead. The download became available to registered users from Thrsday 30 October 2008.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
Hi Heinz,
Does this effect the program you gave to me recently? The one you set up for your daughter who's on Sky Unlimited?
Thanks0 -
Yes, new Excel spreadsheet en route to you.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. How does this work then? Why would 18185 charge different amounts when through a 0800 gateway as opposed to use the 18185 prefix?(8), (9), (10) & (11). This is really good, as last quarter I forgot to make any calls with BT and was charged for caller display!
Ps. Thanks for the update and helping us all save money!0 -

Hi Heinz,
How does the 01,02 & 03 routing change effect people on Primus saver, are you routing to the default provider or actually using the BT override code as if so, this change will mean I pay for the calls if I apply it?0 -

The program assumes a 'minimum' BT landline (which means you also have BT's Unlimited Weekend Call Plan but never use the inclusive [free] calls of up to 60 minutes each to UK 01, 02 and 03 numbers at weekends it provides) and Primus Saver Option 2 CPS (which means you get calls of up to 90 minutes each to UK 01, 02 and 03 numbers evenings and weekends).
The advantage (as you can testify) will be that any weekend calls will now count as 'qualifying calls' for free Caller Display and basic 1571. The disadvantage is the 60 minute duration rather than 90 minutes but that won't be a problem for many and, in any case, a hang up and dial again procedure will re-establish free connection.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Thank Heinz, I was not sure I had the weekend calls automatically as the BT website allows me to 're-order' it and would then use this order to pull all my calls away from Primus (very underhanded of them).
Thanks for the reply.0 -
Heinz and I have been trialling and looking into the 1280 prefix for weekends since I suggested it to him a few months ago (I hope you don't mind me saying that Heinz).
As a result I make about 10 calls in the quarter and have never been charged for 1571 or caller ID.
So it does work.
Basically it switches you over from Primus to BT on the weekend for 01,02,03 calls but be warned it is only a 60 minute free call on BT so don't talk too long to Granny at the weekend, keep that for weekdays.5KW solar, Lux 3.8KW inverter, Uhome 2400 LPF x 6, SOLIC 200 immerser diverter, Leaf 62Kwh, MG ZSev, Ohme home charger, Zappi v2.1, Import: Octopus intelligent ; Export: Octopus Energy Export, 15KW biomass pellet boiler - Windhager., Home Assistant (newbie)0
