Tesco misprice policy discussion area II

As the other thread had got a bit long that one has been closed and this one opened.

This thread is for any discussions on the Tesco policy regarding misprices. Please don't post misprice items in this thread but you can chat away to your heart's content here, leaving the other thread just for listing the 'finds'

Any misprices you find should be posted in this thread here

Thanks :)

For new readers:

For clarification SEL stands for Shelf Edge Label

the Tesco policy on signs instore is :-

"And if things don't add up ~ In the unlikely event you are charged a higher price than on the shelf or the product we will refund your money and you can keep the product"

Compare the price per kilo on the pack with the shelf edge label price per kilo and where there is a difference the lowest price must be charged.

Thanks to !!!!!! Dastardly for providing the following information from the DTI website which summarises consumer rights in relation to misleading price indications:

Q1. I was charged a different price for an item at the till to the one that was shown on the shelf, what are my rights?

The Consumer Protection Act 1987 makes it an offence for a trader to give a consumer misleading price indications. In the first instance speak to the trader about the differing prices, if you are not satisfied with the response, contact your local authority trading standards department who enforce the Act and who could bring a prosecution against the trader.

Hope you don't mind me pasting this over from the other thread as there is no way it would get replied to now if anyone wanted to of course;)

Does anyone know what the limit is on using coupons to the amount in your shop?
After yesterday's using of coupons i went back today and did some more knowing it would be part time staff again and indeed it was the same bloke manning the self scan tills.I had £24 worth of goods which went down to £18 after BOGOF's and then started putting through some £1 somerfield coupons.I got down to about £9 and thought damn it i'm going to use a £5 one too and then it flashed up on screen that coupons needed to be authorised but nearly straight away it went away as if the geezer had done so.So for a £18 shop i got it for £2:)

So can you use half the value of your shop in coupons before they need to be authorised?

  • Went to Stockport store yesterday and picked up, amongst very little other things, the scissor sisters CD, SEL £5.odd, sticker price £9.77, scanned at £9.77.

Now, when I did the self scan till thingy, a curious thing happened, it scanned through overpriced at £9.77 but flashed up on screen "DO YOU AGREE THE PRICE FOR THIS ITEM" YES-NO.

Well I pressed yes and it went through, but if I had pressed no, then obviously an assistant would be called to check how much it should be.

Is this the end for the CD misprices I wonder.

Does anyone know if this is happening on the tills that are manned?

That happened to me in an Extra store with a book during the week, so I cancelled the sale and went to a manned till where she noticed the price difference too, and got a supervisor to override the higher price.

However, I bought another book in a smaller store later in the week and used a self-scan with no such alert coming up.
  • anyone wanna talk Tesco. or is this not the right thread.

  • sO. Books as well eh!

Could be that they have found a way to get round it all then, by getting the customer to either
1/ agree to the overpriced item that you will pay it with no r+r.
2/ disagree and pay the lower price, but still no r+r.

    Sneaky, but quite clever.

Saw a few misprices during a tesco shop today - little britain and disney books etc...but really couldnt be bothered so left them. Then low and behold I was overcharged on a drinking cup for my baby and had to go and queue at CS anyway! CS didnt even check the SEL let alone change it so shows yet again how they couldnt care less who gets overcharged. I did get a refund, but what about all the other mums who are going to be overcharged? Disgusting.
BTW it was a Tommee Tippee tumbler (large ones without handles)SEL £2.48 charged £2.77

If you go into Somerfields usually around the entrance they have what most stores have...a brochure with the usual mix of recipes sp? etc in it.On page 88 i think it is is a whole page of 50p and £1 vouchers for wines but there is also a £5 off a certain make of Gin.Don't ask me which make as i haven't taken any notice;)

If you scan them they accept them no problems(well i have had none anyway).I have collected what must be about 15 books from Somerfield's so now have a nice pile of 50p and £1 vouchers and what must be about £75 in £5's aswell.Take note though the expire at the end of December:)

As i said before i used a few today to get my bill down from £18 to £2 and pretty much the same yesterday:rotfl:

I was stopped on Tuesday though by a full time member of staff.I started scanning some Tesco vouchers but it kept saying i hadn't bought enough or that item so that could be why as she might have seen i was trying to scan vouchers that it wouldn't accept.I then moved on to the Somerfield's and got 3 through when she came up to me and said have you bought them items to which i said no.She then stopped me and took them out the machine and said i'll have to take them off and you can only use one(She knew they were Somerfields so they must accept them)so i used the most expensive which was £2.20 as it was from an old brouchure.

Yester-Me, Yester-You, Yesterday managed to get R & R on Stevie Wonder double CD The Definitive Collection stickered £9.77 charged £10.97.

I see 17 people (according to CP Jackson site) have now had wonderful free Stevie Wonder CDs since I first reported it on 24th November. Currently 89.4% rating it must have been mispriced in many stores(thanks for the 2 Thank You's). What is the record for highest number of take ups on Misprices for CD and other items?
