Am i being thick? are you guys trying to use money off coupons for products you HAVEN'T bought?
Pardon my stupidity but why should Tesco et al accept money off coupons for products you haven't even got in your shopping? Presumably if you buy say, Lurpak and you have a 25p off coupon and you do actually buy it, the coupon will still work?
Edit to say - I'm not having a go at anyone, but i can't see why anyone is surprised by these coupons not working?
Hi - not a question of being thick or stupid, but maybe you do need to read back over the thread a bit more.... It is the actual policy of certain stores to take certain coupons even if the customer does not purchase the goods. Its my understanding that not only can the store redeem the coupons, but they get paid a percentage for accepting them. There are others on the thread who can explain in more detail than me if necessary.0 -
Went to local Tescos superstore and was told they accept only 1 internet coupon only, AND only if you have bought the item stated on the coupon. She said you can also use 2 'magazine vouchers' (not internet) but, again, only if you buy the item stated on coupon.
Absolutely rubbish. Put me off Tescos as my weekly shop is always £100+.
I'm definitely going to ASDA to try next time.
Just wondered if anyone who has come across a 'good' tescos (which takes internet coupons for items not stated on coupon) would state which tescos it is ?0 -

Hi there
Yes tescos will accept coupons for products you have not bought provided they stock the product and are therefore able to redeem it with the manufacturer.
The standard head office policy is they will accept any number of money off coupons per shop provided they are all different, in date and the store sells them. Internet coupons are accepted, but at the discretion of the store manager.
The reason they accept them is simple.
Put it this way, if they didn't, myself, coupon mad and a whole host of other people would toddle off elsewhere to do their shopping where the goods are cheaper.
By accepting coupons they are keeping many people shopping in their store. As they sell the products the coupons are for, they get all the moneyback for them, plus in many cases a handling charge. So they keep our custom without losing money. We don't mind paying more for our shopping because we are able to give coupons in.I can be brown I can be blue I can be violet and sky. I can be hurtful I can be purple I can be anything you like..Gotta be green gotta be mean gotta be everything more...0 -

Can't see where anyone has said the coupons don't work, they do. You don't have to buy the product for a manufacturers' coupon to scan.
As has already been explained by others, Tesco (also Waitrose and Asda) have good business reasons for accepting coupons the way they do.
The only thing we moan about is some stores where they don't know their own policy, and we do know it. Very frustrating.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

they dont always accept them tho thats the problem!! there should be one clear policy for all tesco stores, either they will accept all coupons as long as they stock the item or they wont,. many people say they do but thats not the case. One day differs from the next.Coupon-mad wrote: »Can't see where anyone has said the coupons don't work, they do. You don't have to buy the product for a manufacturers' coupon to scan.

I know, it's really annoying! My nearest Tesco is still so hit-and-miss that I usually avoid it, particularly when I have no time for the possible 'long march' to the CS desk to have them argue among themselves about whether coupons are OK or not - AGAIN!
It's particularly annoying as ALL STORES were sent the policy in June 2007, in a CSM Daily update. Those that read it (or got nagged by customers to read it!) implemented the policy. Luckily I know of 2 such stores & usually go there instead.
Those that didn't read it or didn't want to know, deny all knowledge of such a policy even when faced with the info on when/how the policy was confirmed and even the exact wording. They then say 'oh but that was last year, it may have changed since then'.
It hasn't.
Finally you then have the 'lottery' of phoning Dundee Call Centre (it's NOT their Head Office, BTW, although stores think it is) - only to get one of the many advisors who haven't a clue what you are talking about...:mad:PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Last week I was told they accept unlimited numbers of non purchase coupons and as a result saved £15 on my shopping.
Today at the checkout armed with £18 worth I was told they only accept 5, they all have to be different, but still saved £6.
I showed them the email from Tesco that does not mention the number of coupons per transaction, she just kept saying I was trying to get my shopping for nothing, which I was !!!!!
They are going to clarify it with Head Office and telephone me on Monday, will keep you informed.Janice0 -
I used to go to a particular store all the time until suddenly about a year ago the SA refused all my coupons because I hadn't purchased the items - said their policy had changed. I've been using another store, where they take anything. Was in the area of the first store yesterday and needed a few things; naturally tried some coupons - the SA took them quite happily, didn't even bother looking at them, just scanned them. There may or may not be a new nationwide policy coming up, we'll just have to wait and see, but meanwhile I stick to my theory that they periodically have a clampdown in certain stores, then a while later things seem to get relaxed again.0
