POSSIBLE tesco bargain - any bottle of wine for 9pounds?

Options
In tesco this morning we spotted a deal - any of their 'finest' meals for 2, with a side dish and a pudding, and 'any bottle of wine' (exact wording) for 9 pounds.

Obviously there are meant to be some restrictions on this, but the sign is quite clear - any bottle.

Having said that, we tried to go through the till with a 15 pound bottle and, predictably, the lady said no. She let us have a 5pound bottle but insisted there were rules on what you were allowed, she just wan't totally sure what they were.

If anyone's better at kicking up a fuss than I am (I always get embaressed) I reckon you could really push it. The sign definately said any bottle, and there wasn't any small print.

Let me know how you get on!

(Apologies if this has been posted before somewhere, but I did a search and couldn't see it)

    Sorry to be thick.
With the M&S offer the tills/computer decided what is in the offer or not - eg the small, medium or large chicken.
Is the Tesco offer up to the sa to manually give you the deal ?
i.e did the till accept the £15 bottle of wine, but the sa overrule, or what ?

the normally put the wine which is applicabe with the offer in the respective meal for £9 aisle section like they do in M&s

however - tescos may obv tighten up on this

With a sign as vague as that, it doesnt matter where the wine is put.

If the sign says ANY bottle of wine, I will get it from where I please.

As a Tesco manager I relish you coming into my store. It would give me some entertainment for the day.

Presumably you know about the offer then, so would you care to shed some light? What are the terms supposed to be?

For the previous person - the 15-pound bottle just didn't go through at the till. The lady then took me to a section of the wine rack, I picked a bordeaux for around a fiver and she said it was okay. I got the impression she wasn't sure which wines would work and which wouldn't, but it came up at 9pounds total in the end. (It took around 4pounds off overall, as the readymeals are pretty expensive)

Has anyone had any luck, or is this a no-hoper?

Ultimately a lesson in trading legislation too, I wouldn't be too confident if I were you.

As a Tesco manager could you explain to us why "any bottle of wine" doesn't mean any bottle of wine? Maybe that would be more of a useful post.

I noticed that odd signing as well. All the meal deals in my Tesco are in the middle of a long chiller cabinet, there is no wine at all nearby. It just says 'any bottle of wine'..I had very little time otherwise I would have given it a try as 'any' implies anything in the store.
