OK, I'll be first to have a go. At a guess, in theory, I think (notice I'm sitting on a fence or two here?) that if you take on 1000 kcals a day and you use 999 kcals in a day then barring fluctuations you will "put on weight". As I understand weight loss is all about using more than you take on. In reality though, if you are only taking on 1000 a day then you'll lose weight unless there's nothing of you already. It's an extremely low amount and for active larger people that would be an amount which would do more harm than good. A person must use 1000 kcals a day just by going about their normal daily business, the act of eating, drinking, body workings, getting about, doing ones lifestyle things?
And it's not a silly question, it's THE question.0 -

Basically you have green days and original days, you chose each day which of these you will stick to for the day. Nearly all veg are free food on both days, ditto fruit (don't get confused with WW here - have as much as you need, really, you will lose weight) On green days all pasta and rice is free on green days all meat is free. You really can have as much of either as you need depepnding on the 'colour 'of your day. Then each day you MUST choose 2 healthy extra B's and at least one of the healthy extra A's: this is to ensure nutritional balance. You may not lose weight if you don't have these. You really can have a lot of food: go for it for a week and see and check in here to ask questions as as when. Oh yes - syns. A the back of the book they are laid out. YOu can have between 5-15 a day. I find I can't have more than 5/6 to lose weight, as I am not very active.
At the back of the book, ignore the 'mix to match' days for a bit - it's too confusing to start with. Stick to an all green or all original day for now.
Hope this helps

thanks for the help Brighton belle. i have one question regarding green days. in vegetables potatoes are free foods, i know this is gonna sound stupid but does that include a jacket potato?? or does it mean boiled potatoes?? coz on a red day potatos are only mentioned in the B list in the healthy extras and it stipulates how to eat them.
can i be nosey and ask you what you would eat on an average green day and an average red day?
i must come across as being clueless. i am sooooo used to WW that i am frightened that i am gonna pile on more weight!!!! :rotfl:0 -
LGDNUFC on a green day all potatoes are free food - boiled, mashed, jackets, syn free chips etc. In fact I am just baking some potatoes for my dinner tonight0

... that's because they are a healthy extra due to their fibre content, and most of the fibre is in the skins. Hence, you need the skins.
As A1969 (who is still not forgiven for not giving me her MCR ticket) said, you can do whatever you like with potatoes on a green day, and have as many as you like.
Sorry to burst in on BB's baby, but variety is the spice of life, right? On a typical green day I would have two Weetabix (HEb) with milk from HEa allowance for breakfast, maybe with a banana or strawberries. For a mid morning snack I'd have a banana and an orange. Lunch would be a huge bowl of couscous accompanying a tin of tomatoes, 2 quorn fillets, a large chopped onion, peppers and chilis. Mid afternoon snack would be two more pieces of fruit. Evening meal might be 3 quorn sausages, two fried eggs, syn-free chips and a tin of beans or spaghetti. Then just before bed 2 slices of wholemeal toast (HEb) with Laughing Cow light cheese (HEa) spread over them. The rest of the milk allowance would go to 6 or 7 mugs of coffee during the day. All of that lot is completely syn-free, so there's space for a glass or two of wine as well, if the mood dictates (and it often does).

Hi 123money, as Ajax says, there are no silly questions on here.
It depends what you mean by burning them off. Basically you need to expend more energy than you consume ie use more calories than you eat/drink to lose weight but it's important to remember that your body uses up lots of energy every day just to exist (all the functions Ajax mentioned). As an example, I had some tests done when I was at uni and for my body shape/make up (I was sporty) I needed 1623 a day just to live! Any exercise or activity I did on top of that (from walking around to taking a shower to running 10 miles) required more energy. So your 1000 calories is very low and I would advise upping that amount. It's far better to lose the weight slowly and safely, frustrating though you may find that.
Hope that helps, any more questions feel free to ask and one of the lovely people on here is sure to know the answer. The 1,000 Day Challenge:Feb 16, 2016500/30,000

there a calculator here
http://www.freedieting.com/tools/calorie_calculator.htm
(a link from the front page of this thread)
which should help tell you how many you should be eating.
there's a good section on minimum calorie intake and dangers associated with going below it if you scroll down to the bottom of the page as well0
