• That is a downside, the Halogen Bulb is fragile, and I would recomend doing anything you can to avoid it getting splattered. There is a plate thing which goes over it, but it's not perfect.

I had to send one back to JML for replacement, because the bulb shattered. You can get a replacement bulb, but it has to be fitted by an qualified engineer.

Initially, I emailed 'customerservices@johnmillsltd.co.uk', It took a few days to get a response. I was advised of my options, then I was given an address to send the oven back to:-

John Mills Ltd.
JML House
Regis Road
London
NW5 3EG

The customer service number I was given (although I didn't use it) was: 0871 2222 631.

It took roughly a month, but I got a replacement just before christmas.

The thing is not mine - it just lives in the same house as me - the owner was using it with it's defective cable and pretty blue sparks - until I took it off her - unfortunately I can't do much about the misuse it's subjected to.

Having pulled it apart and seen how it was put together I wouldn't trust JML with it !
I am a competent, qualified, electronic engineer.

That email address is one of the defunct ones !

I'm certain that I'll be able to find replacement lamps - I just haven't succeeded yet.

It's not. I lifted it off of my email to them yesterday for you, which is still in my mailbox. So unless it became defunct in the last 5 weeks, it's correct. It's not the same as the one you posted.

Does anyone have any idea how much it cost to run one of the JML ovens ?. I used one earlier to cook a few onion rings and chicken dippers and my dad was moaning that I should only use it when everyone else wants something . Surely its not that expensive to run for 10mins ??

I have just used my Flavourwave Turbo halogen oven for the first time to cook salmon fillets from frozen. They took 25 minutes at 205 degrees centigrade and tasted great. The book said to cook them for 35 mins, but I suppose it depends on the thickness. The only thing I found was that the light was very bright and gave me a bit of a headache, has anyone else found this?

It was very easy to use and should be easy to clean - I have put some water in the bowl and will let it soak overnight.
• Hi

Can I ask a reallt daft question? Ive been looking at the JML ovens for a while and would like one for a few reasons,

I have a small child and trying to keep her away from the oven door is a nightmare- I don't mind her watching me doing stuff just don't want her burnt so the JML is out of harms reach.

Putting on oven to do small bits seems such a waste of gas so would like it to continue on my quest to use less gas/elec.

Was going to get one at Christmas as a gift but reading the instruction book from an open box I can't really understand or seem to find enough info on cooking times/temps. Do you just use it as you would a normal oven. So equvillent temp of my gas oven and same amount of time? Or do you have to guess and keep checking??

Thanks

The instruction booklet that came with my Flavourwave turbo was quite detailed and had a chart for different types of food.

You can see it at http://www.thanedirect.co.uk/manuals/FlavorWaveTurbo.pdf on page 14.

It definitely doesn't work now !
As I said
customer.services@jmlgroup.co.uk
does seem to be a valid email address, but I have yet to receive a response.

The quest for a replacement bulb continues.
I've had positive noises from a couple of sources who seem fairly sure they can help, but they want more details, and photos, so it looks like I'll have to take the thing apart again !

Update:
I removed the heatshield and took a photo of the bulb 'in-situ'.
Should anyone else feel the urge to try and source a replacement bulb I've bunged the photo, suitably labelled with all the relevant information, on Photobucket.

Further developments !

I've had a couple of responses to my enquiries to various lighting companies in my quest for a replacement bulb, all in the negative, here's an example :
Dear Sir/Madam,
Thank you for your enquiry.
Unfortunately that bulb got discontinued quite some time ago. I'm afraid that you won't be able to find that one anywhere. I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
All the best,
Nick.
So I wrote back, asking how many women called Gus he'd met ! and asking if there was a near equivalent or something I could adapt to fit - here's the response
Dear Gus (a bloke),
Sadly no, there is nothing available in a circular infrared halogen tube that we have ever come across. Nothing equivalent either. All the halogen infrared heater bulbs are now linear.
All the best,
Nick
And then - hurtling into my inbox like a heat-seaking ferret - comes a reply from Customer Services at JML !
Dear Gus
Thank you for your recent email regarding the JML Halogen Oven.
You can purchase the heating element for a cost of £9.94 which also covers P+P.
Should you wish to purchase this element then you can contact our Customer Services on 0207 691 3888.
The code of the item is H1700
Kind Regards
Aine Reilly
So there you go.
Replacement elements are available and JML will flog you one if you ask nicely.
Fitting is not that simple though - it's not difficult, but it's fiddly and a faff.
My search for a cheaper alternative element supply will continue.
Gus.
