I mucked up big time-flight to Glasgow instead of Malaga!

I was looking at flights from East Mids to Glasgow yesterday afternoon (just out of interest).

Few hours later I received email saying there was a bmibaby sale on - I went online and saw there were flights to Malaga and yes indeed they had been reduced significantly. I had been waiting to book flights to Malaga when I could catch a bargain as after all this cold weather I wanted to treat family to a cheap week in the sun during England's school holiday during October.

I booked them quick only to realise to my horror I hadn't changed the search button from early morning and was not the owner of 5 return tickets to GLASGOW!!! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Phoned bmibaby immediately but they wanted to charge £340 (while I paid 65p a minute for the privilage of them telling me this).

So, our 1 week holiday in the sun has now been changed to a week in Glasgow.

I was really upset at first but worse things happen-no one has died (I cried my eyes out for a while).

What I want to know is I have been looking at apartments but they are quite expensive - hotels seem to be out of the question.

Anyone have any ideas on where we could stay?

We don't drive but are used to trains and buses.

We are going 15-22 October - 2 adults, 8yr old and 2 teenagers.
Scottish school holidays are a week before this I believe.

  • There are some £29 rooms available with travelodge (if you search via the saver link rather than the whole weeks) for some of the nights. What about considering a few nights in Glasgow, quick hop across to Edinburgh and then a few nights there. Save up some clubcard vouchers and have some of your evening meals sorted.

Alternative you could get a caravan on the Ayrshire coast for less than £200 for the week (hoseasons)

It would have rained in spain anyway.....

Aww, you poor thing. On the bright side Scotland is gorgeous as rosewhite says above Travelodges are good value and I can vouch for the one in Central Edinburgh

  • The family rooms don't seem to take 5 people - am I reading it wrong (I seem to have a habit of doing that) lol
  • I think you will find that the week you are going is school holidays in certain parts of Scotland. See link http://www.scotland.gov.uk/Publications/2010/02/termdates2010
I just thought you should be aware.

Hope you have a lovely time.

Oh yes - that might be a bad thing regarding trying to get accommodation and a good thing in that they might have some child related shows/things to do while we are around.

I have had a look at the travelodge - a family room does seem to be only for 4 people :( so unless I am able to get 2 rooms for £19 each (currently £45 each at the moment) I think I will need to look elsewhere.

I was thinking 1 night in Glasgow 4 or 5 in Edinburgh and 1 or 2 back in Glasgow.

It may not apply to bmi Baby (or other budget carriers-not sure) but with other carriers there's a FULL refund if you cancel wiithin 24 hrs.

How about the haven at craig tara, i have never been so cant recommend or condone it
Always on the hunt for a bargain
  • I have just phoned - they gave me a different number 5p a minute - 08442450055
But they said that if I would have phoned within 24 hrs (which I did) they would have been able to change names or dates but not actual flights. They did not tell me this while I was paying 65p a minute but that wouldn't have helped anyway.

So the 24hr cooling off period is for just those 2 things - name mistakes and flight times/dates - not destinations.

    So it's Glasgow for me!!!

We don't drive which is a pain - we will be arriving at Glasgow airport 9pm on the Friday - and returning late evening the following Friday.

    Budget is around £400
