This is the third post I've started on this, I will copy in link to the last ones.

But its happening again:eek:

PC seemed to be OK for a few days & then the BSOD started again.

The most frequent message is BAD_SPOOL_HEADER

Also MULTIPLE_IRP_COMPLETE_REQUESTS is a frequent newcomer.

One completely new problem, there seems to be a trackball problem (I need to get a PS/2 style mouse to test, haven't got that yet).
It goes dead, the only way to get it going is to pull the USB out from the back, wait a few moments & plug back in.
Or just turn off at the mains & restart.

I don't know if there is a software problem with the trackball, I did try a software update, but I couldn't do it from the website, Logtech.

I've been getting the BSOD since a good while before the trackball started playing up.

Here are the links to previous threads, so you can see what people have told me to try.

I've ordered a external hard drive from Amazon (that £29.99 Buffalo one that was posted on MSE).

After I've backed up, should I try a COMPLETE wipe of thye harddrive & reinstall Windows XP Media, would that fix it?

To give you an example of how bad it is, in the past hour I've had to restart it 4 times because of the BSOD & I've had to unplug & replug the trackball double that many times.

I'm totally fed up with it now.

Its one major problem after another, as soon as one things solved another happens. Is there a final solution that doesn't involve a sledge hammer?

Hi Mrs E I have read the links and all but cannot read WHAT you have done, exactly. Never heard of that error message, but as I said in my advice to you a system strip and check over is needed, even after 3 yrs.I would re install from scratch, as you have done restores and updates and fixes. Where is villllllllllllllaaaaaaage? You could be next door to actual assistance that close for you.

I live in Surrey. (ha just saw, you're in Surrey too, you into London, I'm about as far south as you can go in Surrey).

There is a guy that fixs PCs not too far from me for £50, should I take it to him?

What I think is best is to back up first when external hard drives arrives.

Should I then do wipe (or get him to do it)?

Do you think that will work?

    As for what I've tried, EVERYTHING:wall: :(

I would also think that a complete clean re-install would be best AFTER you have backed-up all your data. Also I should clean the inside of any dust [main causes of BSOD's] -- I personally have my bootup disk set into 2 partitions one for the system files and the other as a scratch disk.-- doing this enables me to backup my system files onto a different disk using Acronis or other image restore software which allows a FULL restore including all drivers & software [which windows restore is lacking in] in approx 10 mins and I do this at least once every year -- Dave

Dust isn't the main cause of BSOD's :S

Anyway, can you post the model number of your tracking ball as it's looking likely you've installed an incorrect driver for it which is causing the instability.
  • Have you installed an incorrect driver?

You may have to carry out a system restore, to restore your computer to an earlier date when it was working correctly, this will also sort out any installation mistakes that may have been carried out.

MrsE, as I'm doing on another thread can you zip up the contents of the folder C:\Windows\Minidump and PM me and I'll give you my email address and I'll look into the exact cause.

I can't do the service pack three update from microsoft, I though I had done it yesterday, but it FAILS to install, an internal error?

    Tried again.

No joy, it says an internal error occured & installation failed?

    Same message everytime.

& I tried that time AFTER I down a software download/update for the trackball.

    Right,,,,
My external hard drive arrived yesterday & in light of all the PC problems I thought I should do the back up ASAP.

The hard drive (BUFFALO MINISTATION PORTABLE USB 2.0 HARD DRIVE) says that on wondows xp it will install automatically & that I have to open my computer & it will be present, but its not.

I "THINK" I might have a USB problem, as when I plug it in, it says found new hardware & a grey box comes up to install it, it asks if you want to do it from a specific location or automatically, I picked automatically & the grey box then searches & searches & searches & it NEVER finds.....

Its like its not reading the USB port right, this might explain the mouse problems too, as when I plug it in & out it comes back.

Why would my UBS ports go funny?

Also I'm having printer trouble, I can't print anything & thats also connected by a USB......

Can I update or reset or sort out my USB ports?

Would that explain the blue screen of death?
