Hi Mrs E My only daughther got married at the weekend and just getting back online again.
> think the hard drive is 180 GB (or something) the PC man said that would cost about £60 for the part, does that sound right?
80Gb=£21 +vat
160Gb=£31.71+vat
>He said if its the motherboard (????) he probably won't be able to retreive the data from "my documents".
The motherboard does not store the data in "my documents" as you know its really on the drive, thats still probably ok.0 -
If you don't get a post screen -black background with white writing- as soon as your pc fires up this indicates a bios or motherboard problem or a power supply prob. Is this where the noise is coming from? PSU is box with fan at top rear of pc case. Can you try and put your h/drive into another pc as a slave drive?-in order to read/recover data?
There is power because of the noise.
The noise is coming from the tower, but don't know where.
I wouldn't open it & start messing about, its way over my capabilities:o
Thank you0 -

Thats it 160Gb, he said £60, at least hes not really ripping me off.
Thanks for the info about the data.

Its possible the black screen could be the grafics card or the port on the mothereboard it connects to your pc tech should be able to find this out straight away by trying another slot,
I have come across multple BSOD's before and they are usually relating to windows itself having issues with usb devices, reinstalling the OS will solve it.
The noise is concerning however ... does it do the noise often?0 -

Is it worth asking about having Vista loaded?
Now that it looks like I need Windows reloaded?
How much do you think that would cost?0 -
