tesco took plenty off me yesterday

i dont think it is people who are using lots of coupons spoiling it.
It's people who hand over coupons that the supermarkets are UNABLE TO REDEEM, that spoil it. ie the famous £4 book token and SS coupons for one store given in at another

A checkout operator in Asda Bedminster, Bristol, wouldn't take my coupons yesterday, said all employees' had had a letter saying this would stop from last Saturday.
  • I work in Asda and we have all been briefed that if you don't buy the product you can't use the coupon, some people do take the mickey and try to pass off out of date coupons and coupons from other stores

I posted about this on 'Shop but don't drop' on Sunday - I didn't use any coupons on Sat but the operator (at same ASDA)told me that were stopping it that day and had been told that they could be sacked for accepting them! - I understood that it was only if were not buying the actual product - they should still take them for the products on the coupons.

The previous policy was that it was Ok as long as they stocked the product and your coupons did not come to more than 10% of your bill, although I have had some checkout staff be a bit funny about accepting them before.

Shame as I usually manage to save about £2 a week, when I remembered to hand over the coupons - and as all the supermarket prices seem to have taken a nother jump up over the last month I was going to start looking for more coupons...guess I was not alone and that is why they have stopped it.......

Say you do a big shop of £150 (which I do about once a month) then go to pay and you have a couple of coupons, is the checkout operator really going to remember whether or not you've bought the specific items? I can't see them scrutinizing your receipt or making you unpack your shopping to check?

No mention of Asda stopping coupons in my local Asda today (Oadby).
When I handed my coupons over and asked if she could take them,
the SA just glanced at them, said 'yes, of course' and put them through.

I had taken all my highest value ones just in case they do stop taking them soon, but at Oadby for long enough they have only taken 8 coupons before the till beeps and a supervisor has to be called, so I stick to 8 so it does not get embarrassing and hold up the queue!
