  • Good luck Mishka, good vibes coming your way. It was my turn yesterday at a local charity shop, one book sold within a few hours of listing, covered my initial outlay.

i have never considered just buying books in order to sell on amazon but i suppose that it can be profitable. i think next time im at a car boot sale i will have a look at the books and see what i can get. any that are unsellable can go to the local charity shop i suppose

  • Afur, don't forget that once you do this you will be classed as a business and will need to register with the tax office as such (£100 fine if you don't within 3 months and they find out) and submit tax returns.

Can I join the sellers club?
I have sold in the past 48 hours:
    4 books on Amazon
1 book on Green Metropolis :j:j

I have 3 crates of books I need to sell as I don't have space for them any more and they are too good to freecycle or carboot.

Edited to add: One book lurking in my bookcase to sell on is listed on Amazon at £30!!!!! Hope I sell that one as it's a bit obscure.

I've just had the weirdest thing happen to me. I bought a collectors magazine yesterday and it happened to mention a JR Tolkein book that had sold for a lot of money as it was a first print (or something) and as the cover looked vaguely familiar I thought I would check out all my Tolkein books in storage. While I was doing that I decided to cull them all as they had all been listed for ages with no takers and with dozens of other copies at much lower prices I couldn't turn a profit on mine if I dropped my price to price match.

I bought them into the house and was planning to delist them all later today and take them to a charity shop tomorrow.

Now less than an hour later I have sold one! How weird is that? I can't posisbly have triggered anything by just browsing the series of books and mine is still much dearer than the other copies (and is acceptable only)..spooky.

  • Can anyone tell me if they have experience of buying books from Goldstone books? I have arranged to go and pick up 100 non Fictional paperback from them on Friday and hoping that there will be a min of 60 books out of the 100 that I can sell on amazon is this realistic?

I have never heard of Goldstone books however as they already have an ebay and an Amazon shop themselves I can't imagine them selling anything that they believe can turn a profit for themselves.

However, I am happy to stand corrected if anyone has any information about them.

  • Thye are similar to Priority Books they have a stock of over 50,000 books and they normally sell by the pallet load (2000 books). It's worth a try they are local to me so I can go and pick up my order.

I would have thought I'd make my money back either (famous last words)

I shouold really intriduce myself I cam across this forum about 2 weeks ago and I think I've read every page and I thought why not it give it a go myself so far I've sold 10 books in just over a week for a decent profit.

Griff - a lot of us - me included - wont buy books to sell as it then immediately involves the tax man - personally I got enough problems without all that too! Don't forget to register with them as self employed as they get really nasty if they find out later.

    Good luck with it
  • Thanks for the advice, I'm aware of that i'm already registered with the inland revenue due to another venture.

I'm going to pick up the books tomorrow hopefully there will be a few I can sell on.
