Selling Your Stuff on Amazon Part 11 - Advice for newbies in first two posts

  • If you are a pro merchant apart from the £25 per month fee what other fees will amazon charge you? Sorry if this is answered somewhere else searched under pro merchant, but didn't see anything. I am an ebay seller and am really feeling the pinch with sales right down ( posted a comment to that effect and got a very sarcy reply!) There were quite a few comments about recent changes in ebay, but as it is also Amazon maybe there are other reasons - I sell mainly books too.

    Hi PC

Amazon's fees for books are 17.25% of the sale price + 86p if you are not a pro-seller.

It's only worth going pro if you sell 33 items per month as you don't get charged the 86p closing fee. The pro seller fee is £25 + VAT = £28.75. Another benefit of being a pro is your listings don't end so you don't have to relist - the down side is that you don't have to review your prices.

Sold a book tonight - first one for 10 days. Was beginning to wonder if I was invisible! For the first time since going PM I had to pay Amazon from my debit card [£21] as I'd only had 2 smallish sales this fortnight.

Was hoping to build up the book selling and give up one of my part-time jobs but this recent lack of sales has got me worried. Oh well will keep listing and see what happens but a bit fed up at the mo.

Hows everyone else doing this w/e?

I'm struggling to cover my pro fees as well although I did scrape in with 34 books in the last chargeable period. The increase in postage isn't helping, an ordinary chart paperback 2nd class cost me £1.61 yesterday which is a bit of an ouch.

I pulled back a bit from ebay to concentrate on Amazon and since then my income from Amazon has dropped like a stone. If it wasn't for my £99 sale last week I doubt whether I would have been able to pocket more than a few pounds this month.

I'm listing new stuff all the time and taking off some older books that have dropped too low in the rankings, but I may have to make a decision about whether to weather this slow period out or give up and cancel the pro merchant and maybe just stick to a few dozen high cost books. I would think if I gave up the pro merchant I would have to seriously consider delisting half my stock just to start with as it wouldn't make enough to make it worth storing.

Thanks Soolin, Its difficult to know what to do. I've only been selling on Amazon for a couple of years and have about 900 books listed now. Its been hard work to get this far because of all the other demands on my time so I don't want to chuck it all away at the moment. Think I'll hang on for a couple of months, keep listing and see what happens. Maybe time to diversify to other sites as well but its just getting the time to do it :p

Not had a sale on GM for a few weeks either.....

Sounds like a good reason to unsubscribe and good timing too! Who really wants the hassle for a few pence?

Currently I'm looking into halfing my stock of 4000 (Before christmas my stock was over 8000) to just keep books that I might make a couple of quid on. Though luckily my other current concerns may enable me to keep the PPI account so I still get discounted postage, funnily enough the PPI rises were pretty minimal.

Well done teapot2, hearing that someone else has made sales does spur me on. I made a small one earlier today as well so at least I have some money in the pot again.

Can anyone tell me how long it takes to get my holiday settings undone? It was reset on Friday and I am itching to list all the books I aquired on holiday. I don't remember it taking 4 days to activate them in the past.
