  • Martin's recommendation of Tiscali, a financially unstable company with a terrible record of service delivery and customer service, was always moronic. Martin shouldn't recommend what he doesn't understand. Now thousands of Tiscali members, already experiencing slow broadband and awful customer service, face uncertainty and potential loss of telephony/broadband, with a return to BT costing more than £100 while moneysavingexpert will have received thousands of pounds in affiliate marketing £££s from Tiscali. How independent is that? How 'moneysavingexpert' is that?

These Tiscali unfortunates can now join the thousands who are paying, and will continue to pay for a good while to come, hundreds of pounds per year too much for their electricity and gas, when they fixed at the top of the market at Martin's urging. Again, moneysavingexpert will have received thousands of pounds in affiliate marketing £££s from the gas/electric/switching companies. How independent is that? How 'moneysavingexpert' is that?

If Martin doesn't understand it he shouldn't recommend it! Caveat emptor applies as much to the 'expert' advice given on this site as it does to Currys.

Martin recommended Tiscali?? Why? Sorry, I never read his email thingy so am very rarely aware of his recommendations. The only surprise with this news is that it's taken so long for the brown stuff to hit the whirring thing. Lesson 1: don't commit yourself for any length of time to a company burdened by huge debt. Debt in these crazy times is a killer.

If people lose jobs I'm sorry for them, what I can say is I've never come across such ineptitude among call centre staff as I have with Tiscali, they were dreadful.

Numerous phone calls, call backs and visits never happened. BT who I know often get slated on these boards couldn't have been better.

    Hi
I am currently a customer of tiscali for broadband and phone calls. At the moment I have free calls 24/7 and a netgear router which enables my son to use his computer via my broadband. I received the router as a freebee with tiscali as signed for another 12 months.

I have read in the papers today that Tiscali are in trouble and am obviously concerned as if they go down I lose internet and telephone and being disabled and housebound rely on both of these.

Is there another company I can go to who would offer a similar deal and am I going to be able to get out of Tiscali without incurring charges.
If they do go down, what happens then please. Am I likely to have problems with trying to use another company.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
    Many thanks

No, you can't leave them if you are still in contract, unless you pay up the remaining amount due on the contract. If Tiscali were to go under, they would be in breach by ceasing your service, so the contract would then be void. The odds are that some other company would come in and take over the service though, they have a large customer base so several companies would be chasing that business.

As Macman said, you won't be left in the lurch, so to speak. It's likely another company will take it over, or at the very least, you'll have time to switch to another provider if it goes into administration.
  • Tiscali own Pipex though, don't they?

I'm a Pipex customer and am wondering if it's time to jump ship. I've seen out my contract and can move elsewhere.

There was a Telephone company that went belly up! http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/youandyours/listenagain/wednesday_previous.shtml

Depends on whether they can sell up or bankers keep bailing them out! BSKYB as they tried to get them on the cheap and have been sent packing!

BT Openreach may cut lines if ISP don't pay them.
