  • Managed a new two year contract today with it fixed at 30ppl for one year and £150 credit deducted from next order. I'm happy as I wanted to stay with them as I've found the service very good and the people I've spoken to on the phone friendly and helpful. However, I still wish that it was not necessary to haggle every two years !

  • Hello,

We've just moved to a new home with a calor LPG underground tank so all the posts have been tremendously helpful.

After finding the tank was more or less empty when we arrived we arranged a half tank delivery from calor which we paid for by credit card, we shortly received a contract in the post for 42ppl, 25p per day standing charge. Without all your help I may well have signed this but thankfully after going back and forth I received the following quotes (based on an estimated 3000 litres per annum usage).

    Countrywide - 34ppl, standing charge £120
    Extra Fuel - 29.9ppl, standing charge £120
    Woldlink - 29.9ppl, standing charge £100

The best quote came from Flogas and after confirming I would switch, Calor counter offered at

Calor - 29ppl (12 months), 25.15p per day standing charge (91.15 per annum) plus £275 loyalty credit, 2nd year capped at 31ppl

With this final bid from calor in hand I finally settled on flogas who matched the price per litre and credit but bettered the standing charge

    Flogas - 29ppl, standing charge £80, £275 credit, 2nd year cap of 2p.

Over the forthcoming two years this has probably saved me close to £1k, so thanks everyone who has chipped in on this thread.

Appreciate the feedback and it always good to see when someone benefits.

It would be helpful once you get your contract if you could provide the details of the 2p cap. As I have posted numerous times, I have yet to see any LPG suppliers that have an absolute cap in their contract terms in the second year. If you would rather PM me that publish on an open forum then that is fine.

Thanks DGriff79 for the information which is very useful.

My contract with Calor is up for renewal in March and I have already had a telephone call from them proposing a reduction from 44p to 35p per litre ex vat. This new rate would apply to my latest delivery which by coincidence arrived at the same time as the phone call. Paperwork is in the post for my perusal and I think there is still room for improvement.

I suspect there are substantial stocks of LPG throughout the country given the high production rates of oil which have driven the price of oil down so it is in the suppliers interest to shift stocks as soon as they can. This may well account for my previous delivery being earlier than I expected. As for the customer - make the most if this situation while you can.

As I have mentioned in previous posts my dealings with Calor have always been friendly and I have been a customer for 17 years. Moral - if you do not ask you do not get.

    UPDATE - Settled at 32ppl + vat
  • Hi there, have just registered with this forum so i could join this thread - hope you don't mind.
Ive just spoken to Countrywide about a reduction on our current LPG tariff of 37p - they have offered 36p on the basis of a 2 year contract (currently just rolling over).
Collectively the properties that share the supply spend very roughly £8000 per year.

This does not seem like a great offer in comparison to what is being discussed here. Can anyone advise whether it is necessary / possible to haggle? Or is the price offered normally take it or leave it?
    Thanks
    Michael
  • Dochemic, I would ring around for quotes if you have not done so already.

I would then ring them up again, state the quotes you have been given if they are favourable, or just state that you've been on the internet and you've seen CWF giving individuals 30p ppl let alone an Estate !!! ask after a credit to stay too !!!! No need to get stroppy with them, just talk it through sensibly as you see it. You may well get the result you're after. It worked for me.

I will state my usual ' if you don't ask you won't get ' in the world of LPG
  • I will do exactly that, thanks
